Freaking spoilers in the op, so glad I didn't watch it up till' ep. 6

Zaj

In the manga we knew all that beforehand, so it doesn't really make much of a difference. If anything the opening gives the viewer something similar to the experience of a manga reader.

Minashiro Soushi

Assuming every person watching the show have read the manga, yeah, right. I'm just surprised bros haven't skipped the op until episode 5 or 6, as they usually do with this kind of things.

You guys are REALLY underestimating just how awful the slave trade is. Death would be a MERCY.

Not so much the Scandinavian thralls for the most part.

What is it going to take to get the reaction for the next episode right now!?

RandomThorn

I've heard this a lot and, as someone who hadn't read the manga, I simply disagree. Yes there are 'spoilers' in the literal sense but none that actually hurt my enjoyment of the show. This setup is something that people have seen before, and so I would not have been surprised if people who had not watched it can assume many the same things to happen. I think the intro is good especially for setting up people's expectation because the story it shows is inherently interesting and so people don't care even if they feel they have been spoiled. At least, that's how I felt, I enjoyed the first few episodes immensely even after watching the OP

Oh man.. next episode is gonna be something. Also, is that a new camera? Or perhaps better lighting? Picture quality looks more crisp in this video.

Minashiro Soushi

Yes, again, I'm not saying "omg, the show is ruined, literally unwatchable!". It is a matter of preference and I prefer to go in completely blind, so I can understand where those complaints are coming from. Admittedly I go a bit too far, hence skipping ops/eds for all the shows until 6-7th episode... unless it's a banger from Sawano or Myth & Roid :3 Just a bit weird for bros to not skip it for a few episodes, seeing how they skipped OPs in the past purely because of one character, that haven't been introduced yet, for example. My main gripe is showing the MC after the timeskip, that's giving them a bit too much info on where the series is going to go.

i would agree under the circumstance of the story being set up in a linear fashion like that, but it it’s not. in the manga, episode 7 is chapter one, we are already shown the battle hardened and ruthless Thorfinn in the first few pages. the content of the first six episodes was shown as a flashback in the manga after we already knew how he turned out. so i don’t interpret the studios approach as spoilerish.

Minashiro Soushi

Kyle, these arguments make absolutely no sense to me. Manga is irrelevant, "there is no source" (c)

Kyle

not sure what you mean by “there is no source” but ok, maybe the manga is irrelevant, to you... for some reason. when an anime is being adapted it is based on the source material, so the anime following a similar path of showing us Thorfinn all grown up with in the first couple minutes of the story is sensible. Regardless of if it’s through the opening or not. that was obviously the mangaka’s intended viewing experience, so it’s not “spoilers”. it’s not a matter of reading the manga or not, it’s a matter of how the story is constructed, regardless of what form it takes. Sure WIT could have adapted the first chapter as episode one, but showing him in the opening serves the same purpose. I don't mean to invalidate your complaints, everyone has their own preferences. Just trying to give some perspective on the situation.
