As a bonus to your talk about Akari, Akari's name means "light" in Japanese. Take that for what you will.

Mr. Kobuko became one of my favorite characters in one episode. That mother still pisses me off so much, even on the fourth viewing. She's right besides Kyoku on the most-strangle-worthy-characters list

Strange that Rei wasn't even in the episode and still it could be my favorite episodes thus far. Hina and Akari were awesome! It's rare to run into people like Kobuko but they're out there. Love him!

I know I’m way in the minority here, but personally, I’m not a big fan of the Kawamotos. I don’t dislike them, but they’re not why I enjoy the show so much. Basically how the Bros feel about the Kawamotos is how I feel about the shogi in the show, and how they feel about shogi is how I feel about the Kawamotos. Is the wholesome family crucial for Rei’s growth as a character? Absolutely. I’d just rather spend time with Shimada, Gotou, Souya, Yanagihara, etc. than with Akari, Hina, and Momo. For me, stories like Junkei the pigeon racer and Shimada’s arc in S1 are where Sangatsu really shines, and those moments are why I watch the show (and love it). More than anything, though, I think it speaks to how amazing Sangatsu as a whole is that you can find aspects that you love in different elements and still fully enjoy the experience. Sorry for the rambling and probably incoherent comment.

What did you think of this arc then? I thought it represented bullying very well and was just overall satisfying

EmptyGoddess

While it’s probably one of my least favourite arcs of the show, it is without a doubt extremely well done. Just the visuals alone are great, and how they portray the bullying aspect was handled very well for sure.
