The original manga came out in 1972!! so its very old

First time watching this for me too, that was quite a ride. First half of the episode was super confusing, I'm assuming they skipped or sped through many chapters / volumes

the original anime started almost immediately after the manga started (1972?), so it's basically a completely different story since it had very little source material to adapt at the time, and ended up doing a FMA/Hellsing and just wrote its own story, Ryo isn't even a character in it

Yup, the pacing is horrendous in DMC all thought the show. Animation and soundtrack are the only redeeming qualities about it.

Wholeheartedly disagree, it never felt rushed whatsoever, and that was aided by certain elements offered by the show itself.

I hope they watch more of Masaaki Yuasa’s anime. I liked Devilman Crybaby but it’s definitely one of his weaker works.

For a 10 episode ONA, it really did a good job capturing the feel of the manga’s ending.

The original Devilman manga actually inspired many works such as Berserk and Neon Genesis Evangelion, and it’s author Go Nagai made the first mecha manga: Mazinger Z.

There's the Ova which follows the manga and it's really fucking good, but doesn't cover the entire story.

I'd probably have enjoyed this Devilman iteration more if I hadn't been familiar with the earlier incarnations and ideas. Getting to see it all afresh is pretty great for you two! Thanks for the reactions. (Oddly, the Devilman Lady anime, the non-canon one, is actually my favorite.)
