There are very few characters I hate. Not as in they are badly written or unlikeable, but legit hate. Kyoko is one of the few characters who I really REALLY want to punch. Good to see im not the only one. Its incredible (and disturbing) how much she gets under your skin

Kyoko made me drop the show. The second it was obvious she was going to be a recurrent character and important for the narrative my interest just dropped to zero.

Kyouko is such a great/compelling charachter and just owns every scene she is in. I'd HATE to have someone like that in my life, but the way she is portrayed like many of the the other very complex/broken charachters in 3-gatsu is one of many reason why I love it so much and especially the writing/charachter-building. Like you guys said it's so realistic and relatable and that makes it so much more gut-wrenching to see how she manipulates Rei and how helpless he seems before her in this episode. I can't wait for more and when we finally get to the point where both of you guys are going in completely blind :D

Kyoko: One of the best written characters in the show. Garbage human being. Absolutely frickin hate her

I'm pretty fortunate that I've never had the kind of person like Kyouko in my own personal life. A lot of complex and bad emotions that go into their relationship, but u could easily just shorten it to: "It must suck hard" for Rei/anybody in that situation...10 years under the same roof with Kyouko is a looooooot I'm really glad that we have a show like this where we can explore these types of charachters, cuz 80-90 % times I can't take any of the charachters of that Ilk of Kyouko seriously in other stories. The fact that Kyouko's whole "Act" hits so close for so many people (with like a lot of stuff in 3-gatsu) makes this such an equally painful and rewarding watch/read. The anger/resentment in the eyes and faces of Jacob and Caleb during the Kyouko section is somethin that is so real and tangible and the heartfelt discussion coming from that was great. ARGH I want moar 3-gatsu episodes and discussions especially, so goooood

wow cool vid

She actually has very little screen time. I was pretty disappointed since her relationship with Rei is one of the things I found most compelling. I don't she appears at all in the 2nd half.

Lazy_Scorpio

In between 2 seasons she's shown up less than 4 times, so I'd say that was a bit hasty. Her presence is important in the lives of others, but not so much herself (if that makes sense).

Huh. That wasn't what I was told. I may have to watch it now. Thanks!

I wholeheartedly love Kyouko's presence in the story. She is *nothing* like anyone or anything else in the show, and her interactions with Rei are subtle, painful, awkward, and brilliant. I hate her a bit for almost everything she says or does with regards to Rei, who *doesn't* deserve this, dammit, but as with everyone else in this amazing series, there are layers to her too, and slowly getting to see a bit more of what makes her tick as the series continues is very worthwhile. Anyway, I enjoyed the discussion! I WISH you had talked a bit about Rei's comment about his dad, how he would try his hardest when he was younger because he wanted to try get his dad to show more of his real personality and grow a little closer to him, which I found really heartwarming and adorable <3 (and Caleb said during the reaction he didn't really like it? Why?? haha). That was his birth dad too, and I don't think we've seen too much of him previously, so it was quite noteworthy imo. Great discussion overall, it obviously impacted y'all a fair bit and I love hearing you share

Jocelyn

The "didn't really like it" was Caleb mimicking the gesture and then commenting on not really feeling it as something to roll with himself, is all. Agree with your sentiments, just wanted to clear up your confusion. Seriously, though, Kyouko is such an IMMENSELY stressful character, even rewatching, wow.

I don't know about calebs opinion on kyouka.

Kerem Holland

Okay, Kyouko is hands down the most interesting character in the series for me, and possibly personally my favorite character as well. She's not a good person, but her presence just makes the show so much better. My advice? don't see her as a villain, because she isn't. She's just one more person trying to find her place in the world.

Would definitely recommend picking it back up, the show has one of the best character developments I've seen in anime. Rei constantly is learning and growing, and Kyouko does not appear much in the show at all. The show just has a lot of heart and is very well written from start to finish with each character(including side characters) be complex, likable, and very real.

Kyouko isnt a good person, but shes still a person. I think Calebs view here was a bit extreme even though I understand that immediate visceral reaction he had. And he said he hates bullies, but the things about bullies is that they were often victims of bullying themselves. People are really complex, and my response to this wasnt to hate her, but to pity her for being this broken.
