SOS Bros React - HunterxHunter Episode 122 - Netero vs. Meruem

We (finally) get to see the gods do battle. Is it as glorious as I hoped it would be? Absolutely. Will it get even crazier? Probably. How *can* it get crazier? Who knows. I guess we'll just have to wait until next episode :3 What did you think of the episode? Leave your thoughts in the comments below! "Good nuclear testing site"

I liked when Pouf noticed that Youpi has changed and not just by appearance. The reason why Youpi is my favorite is because he is showing a great amount of human emotions. But Youpi is only made from magical beasts. To me this means Youpi has changed (evolved) the most and greatest among all the chimera ants even the king.

well at least we have a sense of scale for the destruction now.

Another thing to look at for the fight with Netero and Meruem is Netero set the condition where Meruem has to beat him without killing him. This is just like the hunter exam fights that Netero set up earlier in the series. Pretty interesting if you ask me.

Nox

3 seconds away from a Netero/Meruem fight (perhaps)....3rd slot?

Zainali

the thing is, what netero trying to say was the king is wavering(ant to human), not completely, and those 2 sides are incompatible. how come? u cant have a rapist that scream feminsim right (bad analogy i know). since neither of those 2 is dominant yet, he realized that he gotta "finish" it fast, cuz if he swayed just a little for the "unsure" thing.. humanity is in great danger. and it doesnt matter if he doesnt know the king well yet, no matter what, meruem is still chimera ant, which u probably forgot what their natural behavior in the first place

Zainali

what i love is that it stated that youpi was made from pure magical beast, yet still talk like a human. i'd love to see the original magical beast, togashi

Watcherdude65

Definitely a great call back and indicative of Netero's focus on resolve and how important a quality it is to him. Reminds me a bit specifically of Gon's match with Hanzo in terms of the difference of ability.

Watcherdude65

The risk is definitely far too great from Netero's perspective. I think they specifically chose to show the scene of Netero receiving his mission to show the heartless bureaucratic power humans can hold, indicating that even if the King became fully human he may still end up a monster. While I can't see it as Netero being truly at fault I think there is some small level of pride and selfishness to be seen in his interpretation that Mereum insulted his resolve when that was not his intention.

3rd hand attack.......3rd slot?

Damiester

Chimera Ants Arc's protagonist is without a doubt Meruem lol.

Irimu

Im pretty sure what Netero was talking about when he talked about taking the blame was more along the lines of the blame for genociding an intelligent species rather than collateral damage.

Travis Saar

October 18th folks mark your calendars!

Damiester

Nah, I agree with Caleb's way of putting it. Netero's division of humanity vs beasts is too clean-cut and simplistic. It completely ignores all the possibilities that could've brought a lot of good to humanity.

Jacky Lin

bad time to carpool

Sen Ogino

In this episode: Shenron drops off Cell and Master Roshi (the true victor of the Cell Games) for their final battle in a deserted wasteland.

Jaime Ruiz

Also im pretty sure Netero has already said he is weaker than Neferpitou now, so that implies in his prime, shits ez. gg.

Rare

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, Meruem.

Watcherdude65

Oh it definitely is too black and white a viewpoint and I think he knows that to an extent and is pushing himself to see it that way so his heart isn't swayed. While I agree there is the possibility for great good and I personally would take Meruem up on it I can't blame Netero for not wanting to take the risk. After all if you step back from the time and context we have had in the story Mereum does look like a young hot headed idealist who wants to change the world and as good as that is I imagine in his 100 + years Netero has seen a lot of good intention-ed revolutionaries who ended just causing more damage and getting crushed by human greed and hubris.

Watcherdude65

I agree thats Netero's main concern but pretty much any negative thing in the operation could be blame shifted to the Hunters Association. Plus it's a good excuse in intervene in East Gorteau and remove the potential threat of a foreign dictatorship.

Wesley Deeg

And even though Meruem has realized the value humanity holds, his view is still far too small, as they mentioned in the reaction, he will choose who gets to be spared. That's not a magnanimous relovutionary of any kind, and even assuming the best and that applies to all non-compatants, the death toll of a massive war between an army of Chimera Ants and the human nations of the world would total in the billions. It's a path that's completely avoided if Netero takes Meruem out here, which is what I believe he focuses on to take away the guilt of killing another individual who could do good things.

Yan Hang

I know you all are waiting for the battle of the century, but...... just keep waiting!
