that wig though

YAMAGUCHI!!!! It's amazing because the type of plays he did in this episode would come off as out of nowhere and unrealistic in any other anime. But because it's Haikyuu and we've seen him practicing and failing and running away for two whole seasons, seeing him shine here was absolutely deserved.

Feels good to be able to leave comments again! And what a fantastic episode to come back to! The entire Yamaguchi Sequence was just top-notch literally however you look at it, starting from Yamaguchi himself and finishing with all those amazing reactions (I particularly liked the girls’ bit of “we’re supposed to be cheering for Aobajousai”, cause bIG MOOD). And Shimada’s small bit noticeable reaction was so heartwarming too ;_; Tsukki’s involvement was such a nice touch! I also checked the manga to make sure, because you saying that they put him in the game when Karasuno were in the lead - I think that’s from the Wakunan match, and that’s what Yamaguchi himself was thinking to calm himself down. In season 1 they put him in in the third set with Aobajousai leading 19:17, but of course it was completely different from this time, because Ukai was just desperate for something, anything to change the flow of the game (and that did help them somewhat). Oikawa, hoo boy. Loved your discussion about him, not much to add here except for stay tuned lol. I remember Nishinoya admiring his serve, think it was back in season 1, and pondering on just how much Oikawa had to work on it since junior high to go so far. And he went so far since the inter high preliminaries too. I wonder if it has anything to do with that really quick conversation between Kindaichi and Kunimi before this tournament, when they were talking about “something” probably being true about Oikawa, because he “always goes to extremes”. Another thing I love compared to the first season is that now we see more reactions in general, even from nameless fans, and that really helps you get into it because of how well presented it is. Really missed you two just cooing about how fantastic Haikyuu is, can’t wait for the next episodes, it’s gonna be incredible!

Also, for anyone who might not be aware, the official Haikyuu day is exactly a week away! It’s August 19th because 8/19 - HAchi Ichi KYUU (dates in Japanese), and, let me stress it once more, it is an official holiday, they have the documents from the Japanese anniversary organization or smth like that, I might’ve screwed up the name lol. They already have a bunch of events this entire week, which they called Haikyuu Summer Week. Make sure to have a great one!

Iwaizumi is low-key one of the most consistent, solid players on the show

My favorite episode in this season! When Yamaguchi scored the first point and everyone cheered, there were two audience saying "This is just one point. Aren't they a bit overboard?". They don't think that point significant because they didn't see how far Yamaguchi had came. Everyone in Karasuno (and of course us the audience) saw how he failed and practice and finally overcame the fear, and that's why they were so excited to see that service ace. You guys are right that Yamaguchi is totally the underdog. I love that the author saved this moment so long (from season 1 to the end of season 2!). Yamaguchi didn't succeed easily (he actually failed twice). But without those painful failures, this moment would't be so significant.

And Tsukki-- the great buddy of Yamaguchi! He never said it out but he's with Yamaguchi. How adorable!

My wig has been snatched (sorry lol) by Yamaguchis greatness. The thing is, I see a lot of people get confused by the serves. A float serve is more about technique while a jump serve is all about power. Of course, whether you do a normal serve, a floater or a jump one, you always aim for the sidelines. Because then only one player can get the ball. A good float serve wobbles a lot and sometimes you don't react fast enough or the ball comes too fast and you can't overhand receive it. That's the basic idea behind it. Control the ball. And yeah, you talked about Kunimi. I love one quote especially, when he asked Kageyama something along the lines of: "So always being reckless equals being a good player?". Sometimes you have to give up a point. In the first episode Kageyama got mad at him when he didn't run to try and receive Hinatas spike. It was one of those things where even if he would have gotten it, the team would have probably not been able to connect it. So he saved his energy for the next receive, block, spike, etc. I like those kind of players, even though they are often overshined by the endless stamina guys.

During the commercial break sequence, you guys said, "This is new" to the Oikawa/Iwaizumi combo. Well, you probably didn't realize, but the Yamaguchi serve was also new! The whole series he's never made the serve; this is the first episode he did! Even the commercial breaks had character development. This episode was so much fun to watch. I've watched this show so many times, but I never fail to cheer on Yamaguchi. Loved your reaction as well.

Also, Caleb's wig reminds me of Nakatsu from Hana Kimi lol (the drama)

Yeah, I love how in Haikyuu, our team's every accomplishment feels earned. Even if there are geniuses like Kageyama, we saw how hard they'd practice every episode that they weren't in a game. Freaking love this show.

Wah!
