It's hard to stand up for yourself sometimes. I've let people do things/say things about me and I just ignore it or laugh it off but a lot of those times I'm really upset and trying not to cry (because I cry when I'm upset, which makes me even more upset and cry more) and I think that's why Shirase stepping up really hit me hard. I don't want to type up a sob fest lol but the way this made me feel... I can't describe it really. It hurt and yet it felt liberating and good afterwards seeing that whole scene. Just beautiful delivery once again and man... And then Yuzu with her "It's fine. It's friendship!" is so gosh darn adorable XD So many different emotions, laughter, tears, ache and ugh!! So amazing!

I am so impressed that this show can hit so many emotional moments, with at least one in every episode, without it being sappy or over-the-top

I freaking love this episode! I'm so glad they made Shirase tell those fake friends to piss off. I'm so pissed off whenever protagonists forgive enemies so easily, because it's the "right" thing to do, and also because they're main characters, who are supposedly the epitome of goodness and all that crap. It's so much more realistic this way, and I cannot explain the satisfaction bursting within me as Shirase kept dishing out those badass burns. On a side note, this is a speculation based on Hinata's personality, but I think she actually experienced something far worse than just being gossiped about. She was probably bullied, and at the very least, ostracized by not only the track team, but also her class. Maybe not on the level of A Silent Voice or other bullying manga, but still essentially kicked out of school. My reasoning for this is Hinata's tendency to downplay and sugarcoat things. She hates inconveniencing others, she hates being vulnerable, and even when she confessed to the others what had happened, it still felt like she was still holding something back. Bullying in Japan is different from other cultures in that the whole class--even teachers--usually participates. Gossips often cast the victim as an outsider, which can definitely lead to ostracism. How widespread the gossips were, or how intense the bullying (yes, I'm calling it bullying) got for Hinata, are left up to speculation. But think about it: Hinata could've avoided her fake friends by quitting the track team, which she did. But, the situation or ostracism (a form of bullying) got unbearable enough that not only did she feel like quitting track, she quit school altogether. That makes the ending of this episode so much more gratifying. Piss off!

Also, if anyone wants to read up on bullying in Japan, just look it up or search "ijime." It's an eye opener. Here's a useful blog that I found from the perspective of a teacher: https://thisjapaneselife.org/2013/06/12/japan-ijime-bullies/

While I 100% disagree with what you wrote in the first bit, your speculation about Hinata does seem like a good theory and it was well-presented. Stamp that as canon.

And after this episode, Hinata being so fast during the chase in the city while stating it's just for "short distances" makes perfect sense :)
