I mean I get your point, there is a bit of gender bias from them but Palm COULD totally be 17 years old I can't really tell the difference between a 17 years old girl and a 22 years old girl in real life except for how the talk or how they dress let alone if she is an animated character...

There is something you missed about the pipe being pulled out of Knov's ability: it was a simple way of getting around the border control; you can not bring metal into NGL. HxH is very consistent that way. That was also a very clever exposition of Knov's ability along Morel's.
