Ok, I think it's time to start this show as well.

Well, per Miura, the manga artist, Guts is named after Götz von Berlichingen. So, his name is probably actually "Götz", transliterated to something like "Gatsu" in the Japanese. Or, "Guts", for us English-speakers.

Frederick Jaskowski

no, Guts is not named after Götz, Miura said it was a coincidence. his name has an in-universe reason, though the show never explicitly goes into it(much like a lot of the other things about Guts's childhood that I'm pretty sure could never be put on television). Miura did confirm that the correct spelling of his name is Guts when spelled using the Latin alphabet though.

FishyVirginia

Miura confirmed he started Berserk before knowing on Götz von Berlichingen and he was surprised by their striking similarities. Thus Guts is not named after Götz.

KLA

Correction, then! Sorry all. It is mere coincidence that Götz was, like the fictionalized Guts, also a famous mercenary soldier who had a mechanical hand that looks almost the same as that of Guts, and happened to live in a late Medieval central European setting whose armor, costume, architecture and polity resemble that in Berserk. Götz, merely appearing also in the fiction of Goethe and Jean Paul Sartre, is too obscure a figure to have inspired any such namesake.

KLA

Not that I disbelieve Fred and Fishy. They might be excellent Berserk scholars, and there's certainly a lot to know. Its just that I guess I have trouble taking it at face value that Miura ultimately added *nothing* in. The mechanical hand is just too much for me. But perhaps it is an amazing coincidence. These things happen.

The longest sword used in battle is actually quite large <a href="http://i.imgur.com/3V9c8WF.jpg" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://i.imgur.com/3V9c8WF.jpg</a>

That Man was a bad ass, and a freedom fighter, sad though knowing no one could feasibly wield a 200lb sword

Guts AKA the original Bakugo, I just realized. Holy crap!

Jcw490

Technically, it is one of the longest running manga out there and is still ongoing...🙃
