Winter Chess Four

there are two tournaments, the summer inter high which they just lost and the spring tournament which daichi talked about in the second episode and said that was where karasuno had shined in the past

Someone needs to make a comic where caleb climbs his tree to yell his frustration lol

Carly

I can’t wait for the reaction to season 2! You guys are gonna love it!

TrianaNero

I absolutely love it how you paid so much attention to connections in particular in the end of the discussion, because the word 繋ぐ (tsuganu = to connect) can really be seen in various important quotes and scenes all throughout Haikyuu, and so that just shows that you hit the right point. Can’t wait for you guys to find out what the second season has it stock. Good luck and brace yourselves! :D

VinterSvart

sooooo next sunday season2????? ;b

Seasons in Japan occur in different months than in North America. School year in Japan begins in April. To explain it simply, there are 2 national tournaments for each year. The first is the Interhigh (April to August for volleyball), which Shiratorizawa won the Miyagi qualifiers for and went to, at the end of the first season. The second is Spring Tournament (September to January for volleyball). All teams in each prefecture try to qualify for both. This means every high school volleyball player has 6 chances total to make it to a national tournament throughout their three years of high school. University entrance exams in Japan is held in January, which is also when the finals of the Spring Tournament take place, which means there won't be much time left for the third years to study for that exams if they participate in the Spring Tournament.

Are you guys going to continue Season 2 after the OVA for next week?

Aw man, I can't wait for you guys to start react to season 2! I'm so excited!

High school seniors are 'expected' to leave their clubs before the spring tournament and devote their time to studies. And you know how heavy those pressures can be on the japanese.

I totally get what Caleb said about the raw frustration and need to express it by yelling and running around sometimes. I’ve had a long career as a competitive swimmer, and I found Hinata’s and Kageyama’s outbursts to be so relatable. I’ve totally done that myself before, and it’s liberating to say the least. Haikyuu hits you right in the feels without going overboard. Can’t wait for season 2, it’s my personal favourite :3

Least fav Haikyuu episode :/

Lynda Jaeger

When you read the manga too so you know what's coming next Friday... I can't wait for season 4! It's going to be epic!

JLou

Prepare your hearts--season 2 is incoming HOT!! There's no time to rest, and every waking moment must be dedicated to self-improvement. Karasuno FTW!

Ousmane Dembele

It's pretty subtle, but in the scene with Dateko's seniors talking to Aone and Futakuchi after they lost, it sort of implies that they are choosing to leave the team. That is the most obvious part of the 2 seasons in a school year thing.

Ousmane Dembele

BTW, don't get too fixated on 1 season = 1 school year thing, Season 2 starts after like maybe a 1 month timeskip. That's why binging this show is so appropriate considering the structure of the story. Eg. when season 3 was airing, i just waited for it to end so I could binge it. Haikyuu is just better binged. Looking forward to your S2 reactions!

Ousmane Dembele

Only 1 team from Miyagi goes to the Spring Tournament, so they have to play qualifiers in Miyagi, and it's almost exactly like the InterHigh qualifiers/preliminaries that just ended.

Milen Varbanov

Guys, please avoid the title of season 3, it's spoilery

To those who are interested about Japan HS School Year, here's a what I know (a little) They do start in Spring, and it's for a good reason. Here me out, they start in Spring (春 Haru) as it is symbolic, they believe it's a good start for "growth" for the students. But to those who are confused with the Calendar, Spring Tournament is only called so because the finals end in early spring which is like mid-march. The new school year starts in April (it's the middle of Spring Season where Sakura is at its best bloom, which is why you can see in a lot of Gakuen-focused animes where they always take photos during their entrance ceremonies on the school gates where Sakura trees are present, always). I hope this clears somethings!

And Interhigh is completely different from Spring Tournament. Both have their own nationals. As they are completely different, the national level tournaments USUALLY are in Tokyo Stadium. BUT sometimes, the venues change.
