I get the feeling they think this is a 12 episode anime and they're waiting for it to all come together in the next few episodes.

Yea plus they don't seem to be grasping the fact that characters and situations can be introduced for the sake of a future plot line e.g. assuming that we'll never see the vampire again and that it won't have any bearing on the story which seems surprisingly short sighted for them

bennydelon

Come on, don't you realize that this is a spoiler?

You were really... "definitive" about this episode. Kinda short sighted as someone mentioned before. I love your discussions and theories. That's why i'm always irritated when once in a while you assume something and state it as it was a fact. I thought you would've already known that most of the times you do something like this, you're either wrong or very, very wrong. Still love you like my best friends, just wanted to say this. And you probably won't even read it, because you're afraid of spoilers (which i understand).

This is a set up episode (not filler) where some of the set ups are obvious and others reallllllyyy subtle, but all very necessary for the story as a whole. I actually prefer this episode to several of the more actiony ones you've already seen :)

I'm watching this along with them, and I totally get where they are coming from. After waiting a week for this episode it makes it seem a bit fragmented and incomplete compared to the previous ones... Not sure how their discussion about this is shortsighted like people are saying

Vern

What's frustrating for us is how dismissing they are of everything that happened. A LOT happened in this episode. Three different plot paths opened Elias, Chise, and the Vampire. But instead of talking about it they dismissed everything as being worthless but the very end of the episode. Its frustrating to say the least.

yeah could you remove or change the comment please

So I think that a big part of this show is, outside of the fleshing out of the magical world, the progression of characters getting through depression and trauma. And this show does not treat that lightly, so it's not going to be a quick process. This episode was important in that it introduced two ideas for Chise and Elias. For Chise it introduced the idea that sometimes she needs to get away from home without Elias and have days to herself. For Elias he found out that keeping so many things to himself bothers Chise and is a problem in their developing relationship. Both of these were things that these characters needed to find out. The scary scenes were absolutely necessary to Elias' developing relationship with Chise for reasons you will find out soon. Honestly these characters have the opposite problems. Chise is too attached, and Elias is too detached.

"We haven't seen all of these people in a long time! Sure would be nice to get a slice of life episode!" All of them in the same episode, plus slice of life. Quite the timing you two have. And then you're... Unhappy with it? What? Sorry, I think you're really off the mark with your discussion this time.

Wow dude chill

To me it just sounds like you can't take any criticism of your show. They weren't being unreasonable at all in their critiques, they just said it wasn't as strong of an episode as the previous ones and then listed the reasons why. That's it

Unsolicited personal comments? Me?

"you're really off the mark with your discussion this time" "The discussion this time was absent of any foresight, it was extremely shallow, and exceptionally disappointing" "This is not the quality of reaction I have come to expect from you two" "I hope your next reaction shows a bit more thought instead of dismissive condescension"

As someone who has read the manga since it was released, I feel let down by the handling of the anime. Not in any aspect in particular, but I don't think this anime captures the true magic (pun intended) of the manga. If someone watched this without reading the manga first then I think a lot of what's great about this Elias-Chise relationship would be lost on them. TLDR; I think their reaction and analysis is fairly good. Even though in hindsight of someone who is further in the story than they are, they're missing out on the great bits.

Lynda Jaeger

I think this was a subtle showing of her growth as a person by the shopping montage and showing her growing connections. She is a super caring individual but she has had a life where connections were ephemeral. By buying "souvenirs" or snacks. Which is what you would do for family or friends when you go on a trip, its like shes saying i care for the beings in this house. She even backpedaled when she changed her words there. Probably because she thought they would find it odd. I don't know. Just my weird thought on that.

Lærke

i agree with you on the passing issues, that's unfortunately a recurring problem with this series

Clear Lime

this is reverse-harem anime which was made by and for pussy

catb

... wait, what? I've seen reverse harem before. This... does not strike me as that.
