And THIS was my favourite episode of this anime. I was completely satisfied and interested while watching it. As much as i've found MiA a little bit underwhelming, episode 10 convinced me to give it 8/10 at the end. I'm really glad you're already there, guys ^^

Lærke

You think this was sad? You have yet to experience true horror, young ones. Maybe one day you will uncover the true horrors of the Abyss. My my my my my my my my my my my my my my my, how very interesting.

Gives a little bit of grounding upon Ozen's actions a few episodes prior doesn't it? Much as it's painful, the sound design and voice acting in this episode is absolutely stunning. It's pretty obvious by this point that this particular story is a quintessential "man against nature" archetype in its most primal. It's really easy to forget that modern life as we know it wasn't really a thing as little as a hundred years ago. Even the ideas of maturity have changed very dramatically since then. Children today would be expected to do crazy (to us) things in commonplace dangers and wilds. Nature has no plot armor.

I think it's safe to say that for the majority of people, this episode is disarming. Enjoyed the reaction guys. *wink*

Princess Paladin

Yep. This is what we were telling you. The Abyss is dangerous. Any random thing can come out of nowhere and kill you. 12 year olds do not belong here. :

How are they gonna one up this you say...

This was an emotionally draining episode and for me, it's the most torturous and grueling point the series got. Like you I could barely handle it. This is the only anime that I've watched that hit me really hard with a scene like this. The only other one that drained me so emotionally would probably be the original FMA, which also had me genuinely scared for the MCs and bawling out crying.

"let's get to this episode and see what happens"... now you see what happened LOL

Anonymous

Fuck rewatching it, definitely didnt make it easier to.

Hope you guys do a full reaction for the last episode since it's 50 mins long

Damiester

Remember the time when they thought Ozen's teaching methods were too harsh? lol, blaming that rabbit-girl and Ozen for being realistic in this environment just makes no sense. Their ethics and morals are completely different because the context isn't the same with ours.

SmilePlease

Why not? They could just do one with timer like they do with HxH, right?

Zii

By the time the last episode should be released, the $10 tier should already be implemented.

Exactly as you you guys stated, seeing this was the point that I was no longer interested in this show. Personally for me, I think the "cute characters juxtaposed with brutal events" is a very cheap way to shock the viewer. Not that children cant be killed or hurt in stories, but to me this is like twisting the knife that already is there seeing something so horrible happen to a child. The way the characters are drawn and portrayed are done purposefully to make a scene like this hurt that much more.

I definitely agree with you that episode 10 is the make or break for a lot of viewers of the show. For me, it definitely made me want to keep on watching the show, as the show presented the scene much like it presented any other scene. I didn't feel as if the scene was shocking or cheap as it was something that always had a possibility of happening on the higher levels as well. If you look back, the show never shied away from showing even small things like Riko gutting a fish, so to expect them to turn away from Riko bleeding out of her orifices and having her arm broken would have been a deal breaker for me as I would have felt the show would be a shell of what I had come to expect. I agree that the scene would make recommending this anime to others a bit harder as some simply are not for this kind of anime. As someone else stated, the sound design and voice acting in the scene were great, much like throughout the entire series.

semblanceofsanity

Whoa whoa to clear things up let me explain. We recorded this show in a format that screws up the possibility of full length reactions. As such it is next to impossible to get timer based reactions :(. However! Rhop and I are working on a solution for the final episode only. As it is a double feature of sorts. Hope that helps!

Princess Paladin

"The viewer" is not important. "The viewer" is not the target of anything. This is what is happening in the story. If you don't like it, yes, please, go do something else. The rest of us are still enjoying the experience.

I respectfully disagree. I think its pretty obvious many things were done in the anime completely with the viewer in mind, specifically to shock them, or at the very least disturb them with the aforementioned contrast. I highly doubt it was a random decision to juxtapose cute, almost chibi like characters with a unforgiving, brutal environment. You might like that contrast, I personally dont. Plus, I never had a problem with the content necessarily, but the way it was framed/portrayed. Ive seen child death/suffering in other anime, that didnt handle it like MiA, that I was fine with how it was done. Im not saying the anime is bad, im saying I personally dont like it. Just cuz you like something doesnt make it above criticism.

Vincent S Deluca

see most people miss the fact that this is an R rated Anime

KLA

Well, Episode 13 will be double length. Maybe you can give us a Part II to your review!
