Genuine thanks for the volume warning, otherwise I would’ve woken up the entire flat :”D Watching you guys fanboy over Nishinoya is the best. And yes, Hinata’s name is 日向, could be translated along the lines of a “sunny place”, and Tsukishima’s is 月島、moon + island.

Zii

"Tsuki" means moon in Japanese

VinterSvart

Go GO! Cant wait for the next episodes please!!!!! xD

VinterSvart

Also, Tsuki means moon in japanese and i think Hi from hinata means sun/light

Ousmane Dembele

when a team scores, the team that loses the point rotates. You'll see "serve streaks" a lot more in the future.

Ousmane Dembele

You can serve 25 points in a row technically, but the whole point of the game is that the other team receives the serve and gets to "attack". Of course the serve can go OUT as well. IMPORTANT: A "chance" ball happens when the serve receive goes over to the other side (instead of the setter of the receiving team), or in any case where to the opposing team cant get a clean receive and has to just pass the ball over instead of setting it up and spike (you can only touch the ball 3 times apparently)

Oikawa is one of my favorite characters :)

Yes!!! Your guys' reaction to Nishinoya's foot save was legendary; I've been waiting to see your reaction to that since you guys started this anime!! I wouldn't be surprised if it broke your guys' previous record for highest dB reached in a reaction lol! :D

It's a 40 second clip from the recap movie, just an extra scene that adds more perspective to dateko's 3rd years after the loss this episode. Remember to turn on the captions.

I love this episode because it proves that Nishinoya deserves every word of hype he gets

Jacky Lin

in anime there are often a part of their names directly ties to character design, especially in something like MHA where their are a lot of characters

Anonymous

Nishinoya's receives are so damn iconic, nuff said.

Lynda Jaeger

Tsukki is more apathetic to the game but he gets serious shine in season 2 and 3. I love that you love Aone! He's a sweetie and becomes rival/buddies with Hinata.

Waluigi

10:02 That moment when the brain finally registers what is happening. I live for these reactions, been waiting for this one for a while.

Hyperion

Oh and I dont know if you know this already, but the soundtrack to Haikyuu is done by the same dude that does Heroaca's.

Lexa Khourie

Jacob, as a kpop fan, I fully support the "kpop setter" nickname you bestowed upon Oikawa. 👍🏻

Tammi M

Up til this point, we have seen Tsukki can be pretty perceptive of the actions on the opposing team. This episode we get a glimpse of his views regarding his role on the team. I'm glad that even with all the epic moments in this ep, you guys noticed it. Also, relaying to your comments about spirit animal forms Cats are known to be quiet and loners but also, are thinking and planning. Which we've seen a bit of in Tsukki here - so even though they're all ravens per their team name, Tsukki's spirit animal is def of the feline category lol. There are a lot of other points I want to refer to regarding statements, BUT I feel that it would be towing the line of spoiler-y to comment on them. You guys are perceptive and love your theories and discussions! :D

Haven't had that crazy Jacob laugh since Attack on Titan haha

TrianaNero

I didn’t see the correct explanation on rotation in the comments so I’ll add this: rotation happens when you win a point off the opponent’s serve. Say, Oikawa serves, but Karasuno receive it and manage to score - it’s Karasuno’s turn to serve, they rotate and a new player gets to serve.

Jonatan Nielsen

I think Jacob and Caleb are unaware of soccer, lmao.

semblanceofsanity

Glad to hear we didn't cause any problems for ya! That moment made us lose our minds! Nishinoya is a defensive god!

I think it's best if we don't tell them what happens

The downside to Haikyuu is that all other sports animes you watch after just don't seem as good. The only one I can think of that is equal to it is Hajime no Ippo, a boxing anime (which you guys should totally watch if Haikyuu got you hyped about sports). Baby Steps, a tennis anime, also comes close but takes a while to reach that peak of being as good as Haikyuu where as Haikyuu was just that good from the start. Unfortunately, neither (singles) tennis nor boxing is a team sport so you won't really get the teamwork aspect that Haikyuu mastered.

TheMadBarber

Slam Dunk and Ashita no Jo are the masterpieces of the genre imo. I've only read the manga for both of them but they are fantastic. Another favorite of mine is Hikaru no go, drawn by the same artist of Death Note, Bakuman and Platinum End. Another good spokon is Eyeshield 21 drawn by the artist of One Punch-Man and written by the author of Dr. Stone.

Bluff Oranzova

Everyone on karasuno is a crow but for individual animals hinata is definitely a puppy with his boundless energy, probably a terrier. Tsuki is totally a cat, but a wild big cat like an ocelot or a lynx.

Darksteel78

I know what you mean. Haikyuu is so good. I used to think Kuroko no Basket (basketball) was amazing but I can't see myself watching it again. It would just disappoint me. The only other sports shows I see myself watching again are Baby Steps (tennis) and Ace of Diamond (baseball) which feature sports that I generally don't enjoy watching ironically.

Anonimowy Gaal

Still, i really hope that they'll eventually start Hajime no Ippo. Amazing stuff. It was the best sports anime i've seen until i've watched Haikyuu xD

Anonymous

I agree that there is other good sports anime but I don't think they would enjoy another one as much as Haikyuu, speaking on how character driven and slice of life it is.

Carmadillo

the subs here said the crowd went 'so close!' after nishinoya's foot save but the proper translation is actually 'hIS FOOT??' which is definitely more appropriate

Riru (〃^▽^〃)

Oh yes, Eyeshield 21 and Ace of Diamond are also great contenders. Unfortunately, Eyeshield 21 is ruined by bad pacing (so we'd have to get SOS to only watch the relevant episodes) while Ace of Diamond's characters just aren't as dorky and lovable as Haikyuu. It honestly depends on what SOS is looking for. If they're looking for matches that are as well-constructed and hype as Haikyuu, I'd recommend Hajime no Ippo (boxing). If they're looking for the teamwork aspect, I'd recommend Eyeshield 21 (football). If they're craving the technical aspect of volleyball being used creatively and realistically, I'd recommend Baby Steps (tennis). If they're looking for some great rivals and a relatable growth curve of skill, I'd recommend Ace of Diamond (baseball). If they're looking for a mental game disguised as a sport, I'd recommend Oofuri (also baseball). If they're looking for an OP af cocky main character starring in an anime that had a good start but brought it down solely on how much he annoyed me, I'd recommend Major (sorry, I didn't like Major very much). God damn I've watched a lot of sports animes.

Elwood Short

Don't worry , you will learn the rules as the series goes on, including the rotation system, and pinch servers etc etc. I also love the way that we end up caring about opponent team members as well as Karusino... it truly is amazing character writing.

Bijoushinh

Yeah Tsuki means Moon.

RandomThorn

I've only seen as much as you but from what I'm gathering is that Tsukishima is really good, however, he is completed overshadowed by Hinata. I remember how, in every match so far, there's always a moment where you're 'Nice Tsuki!'. He seems to be really consistent but never realized since he has no big moments. Personally, I can't wait to see more development for him but I agree it probably won't be for a while.
