SOS Bros React - HunterxHunter Episode 30 - Wing Told You Not To Wing It

Here's the link to our reaction: https://vid.me/MfWRk Heyyyy, our shonen protagonist decided to be stupid, lost and has consequences because of it! It'll be interesting to see how Gon handles being cooped up for so long (assuming of course they don't just time skip it all.) But hey, they're showing that Nen is super dangerous and if you just try to Wing it, bad things can happen. What did you think of the episode? Ohhhhhhh boy here we go

Burooj Ahanger

I think when he said beast, he was talking about both of them as a collective. thats what i always got from that scene

Jacky Lin

The real exam

Aya

as much as i absolutely love hunter x hunter, i can admit it has flaws. i personally really like this episode, but i understand how it can be seen as weaker. also, just wanted to say i really enjoyed your discussion on gon and killua's friendship and individual characters.

You guys made some great observations, some of which will be solidified throughout the show. It can definitely feel slow at times, especially when you only watch two episodes a week. This arc starts slow, but, in my opinion, the show just gets better as it goes on so this is just the start.

Sennai woldemariam

I’ve felt the exact same the whole time, also I find that the “beast” comment is more on the rapid growth and innate talent they possess for future progress.

Kencesar

Ughh.. I don't believe the whole part where Kurapika just "happens" to stumble across someone that can teach him nen was "Plot Convienience". They stated multiple times in several episodes already, that The Real Hunter Exam is About to Begin.

Clare

Beast refers to Gon AND Killua guys, that's what I always got from that scene x

SuperTallBird

I think what this episode was supposed to do, was to introduce to you the idea that you can do things with Nen that combine more than one of the 4 pillars. Things like controlling tops, and compatible items. It's very important that they introduce unique powers even if it's just controlling tops, because it will get you use to the idea. To sum up, Gido (top guy) is probably about as strong as Gon is right now, Nen wise, however because he is able to use that unique ability he has a leg up on Gon. So learning an honing an ability is super useful.

Clare

Cant wait for next episode, now ha, I personally enjoyed this episode, mainly because of Gon and Killua interaction, and Wing and Killua's interaction. I loved how it showed how deeply Killua cared about Gon (remember, last time Gon got majorly injured when his arm got broke Killua hardly showed any emotion) this time it's clear he deeply cares about Gon and upset he injured himself though plays his worry down with teasing.

aoblock

to be fair, watching last episode it seemed like you guys misunderstood most of the explanation for nen. so i dont get why your acting like you knew everything explained in this episode.

These videos are so interesting and weird because while I've definitely seen people have issues with certain story arcs in Hxh, I've never seen anyone have issues with this one in particular. Even if it can be frustrating it's interesting to how they interpret everything.

aoblock

also kurapika running into that guy makes 100% sense when you look at the context. kurapika was leaving a hard to find hunter job scouter basically, and this guy is obviously a hunter so it makes sense that this guy who was clearly looking for something to do and was going to find a job to do would get intrigued and try to help out this new hunter who clearly needs the help. plus there was no fight for kurapika, the point was that he couldnt do anything to this guy, so no there was no real fight for you to watch happen.

Clear Lime

Why do many people here seem to think hxh is perfect? There are asspulls and plot holes in it.

Damiester

lol you guys keep guessing that typical Shounen tropes would happen and then get proven wrong. This is like a typical pattern in your HxH reactions. I've lost count how many times Togashi has proven you wrong in a single episode.

Damiester

The point isn't that HxH is perfect, but the fact that their criticisms seem a very misdirected. A lot of the times, they've completely misunderstood certain elements of the story and were even off multiple times with their predictions. Yet they would claim that an episode doesn't have any substance. It's like mistaking a pig for a cow and then blaming the pig for it.

Princess Paladin

Just because it's "obvious" (ie. assumed) to you doesn't mean it would be to everyone else. You need to keep in perspective that this is a very old series, and you two are very smart, and you have seen a lot of things that are based off of what Hunter x Hunter did, or that were newer when Hunter x Hunter initially came out. And I'm surprised that, in your analysis, despite all the evidence so far, you haven't reached the obvious conclusion: Gon is an adrenaline junky. Like, they basically stated it in this episode. He is addicted to the rush that comes with putting his life at risk. (P.S. You have said some things were obvious even though you guessed the exact wrong thing about them. So maybe not everything is as obvious as you think it is.)

Princess Paladin

Gon and Killua is one of the best friendships in all of anime. You nailed it. You aren't reading too much into it (for once XD). It's definitely a friendship thing.

Irenesharda

On the other hand, there ARE some typical shonen tropes in HxH. It's a great show, but it's not perfect. Actually because it is a forebearer to shonen that came later, it makes sense that other shonen use parts from this one. HxH does turn a lot of shonen tropes on its ear, but it does still use some of them as well. There were times in later arcs, where I struggled through parts and just skipped over some, because I knew exactly how it would end and it was just becoming tedious. It's not a perfect show and I wouldn't knock them for some tropes that they notice.

Ace of Blades

Even the guy Kurapika met said right to his face, "the real exam begins now".

kevinup

HxH is my favorite anime. SOS HxH videos, while still being entertaining, are starting to become frustrating. "critiquing" based on incorrect info or assumptions. Especially when they suck MHA's dick so hard.

The Soldier

@kev Because they don't have nostalgia goggles on I guess lol..

Anonymous

They clearly don't like the show man, but they're "forced to" because of the poll, feels kinda sad this is my favorite anime

Anonymous

It's pretty unfair to say they don't like the show. Sure, there are going to be episodes where they don't like certain things. And maybe they don't always see or understand things the way some of us do (which, reminder, that a lot of us have seen the show in it's entirety, maybe even seen it multiple times, and we've had time to digest it). But there have been multiple episodes of HxH where they praise and talk about how much they enjoyed the episode and the various aspects in it.

Hyperion

These are literally the slowest episodes in the series. push through it.

Mavengoose Unlimited

Honestly I am not looking for SOS bros to be impressed by HxH. The reason I am here is to get the perspective of story writing... getting into the authors mind when he was creating this masterpiece. Even if the SOS don’t like this show, I want them to be professional and analyze this show without the bias of not liking the show personally. It is frustrating to me when the level deep dive analysis is cut short and I get a shallow analysis for HxH. Although I am confident in this show that as it goes on.. it will leave a strong impression on the SOS bros. Hope they get to that stage and hopefully enjoy it. Great analysis on the friendship part and the power system analysis has been fun. I will be coming back for more.
