This is Fine

To me personally, I think the madame of the house deliberately did not tell Maomao‘s father that she was alive because it was in part vengeance. He literally screwed her out of a lot of money because she became pregnant and just like Maomao’s mother she probably thought that he potentially played with her heart, got her knocked up and he didn’t care because remember, Maomao’s mother was still writing letters to him, but the letters were going to his house and he was away for half a year so they probably both thought that he just didn’t care and then he keeps popping up trying to see her she just told him being spiteful she was dead I think it’s one of those situations where if she could go back in time maybe she would have mercy on him and tell him the truth but it’s just a mistake. She can’t take it back. Just gotta live with the actions she’s committed

Committing the cardinal sin of speculating - much of the granny's behavior can be explained if you accept that two things can be true at once. She both seems to care deeply about Xiaofeng (doesn't kick her to the street, forcer her to abort, sell her off to a low-class house, etc.) as well as cares about the house and making money. She must have been a courtesan herself and, as a woman responsible for other women with no man to represent them in a highly patriarchal society, the better the house the better the life those women can have. Only the princesses of a high class brothel could choose not just whether to take customers but also who they will let buy them (as is alluded to with the granny scolding one of them to just pick already). I still believe the granny is either Xiaofeng's actual mother, found mother, or 'big sister' which is would explain an awful lot of seeming inconsistencies. I also think she hated Lakan and may have implied XF was dead (or perhaps XF herself didn't want him to know because she is proud and didn't want to see what she had become).

There is also the simple fact that by the time Lakan came back until the syphilis ate into her brain to this point where she is barely there, Fengxian was showing just hatred and wrath towards Lakan and Maomao, hell she mutilated herself and Maomao to curse him. Granny had no reason to assume that things were different.
