Content

Hey everyone, just writing a little post here. Feeling very down at the moment, wanted to seek out advice and affirmation. Content warning for, well, stuff you might expect to see in the Dan Schneider video.

...

...

So as some of you know, Drake Bell was just revealed as the anonymous source in the upcoming documentary about Dan Schneider. This also includes the information that Bell was groomed and abused sexually as a child by a crew member at Nickelodeon.

I feel so knocked out and defeated. It's horrible information to learn, it's a devastating thing to happen to a child. But I now am left feeling unsure about any of the content I have planned. The content I've been working on for years.

Of course, this will impact the DS video and will have to be covered. But the big thing that bothers me is the Timmy Turner remake video. I've been so proud of those videos for years, and I've felt so confident that reposting them with new audio and effects would be a way to reboot the channel brand in an irreverent way - like saying "This is a new beginning and we'll be getting back to a new normal."

And now I fear that this video, again that I've invested a lot of time and money into, is just in bad taste and will completely fail at restarting anything at all. I think people will either be unable to enjoy it or they'll think it's some grand commentary about the allegations - which is exactly the energy I was hoping to escape from. I just am so beat down about this and I don't know where to go.

Because on the other hand - I know they're good videos, and I am so proud of the edits I have so far. It's just so terrible.

So what do you think? Do you guys think it will end up working out? Are those videos still funny without.

EDIT: I will be very very clear about this. If the only solution is to put in a disclaimer, I will just not release the video. I am staunch on this. If I have to put up a text disclaimer, the video no longer has a reason to exist and I should just delete everything. It is meant to be a reboot to the channel, starting it on a big wall of text describing abuse is an awful idea. If it's the only option anyone thinks makes sense, I should delete the video.

Idk I didn't think you were harsh on Bell in the video you posted. It's also possible to shelf it for a month or two while this whole thing dies down and post it then.

Chimera

Just watched it, I think if you tone down or remove a couple of the jokes at Bell's expense, the video is completely fine. (the "grotesque creatures" bit made me cackle, but should probably go). Someone out there will inevitably take the least charitable interpretation possible, but that's just internet culture. You shouldn't let those people hold you back.

Hello Mr. Quinton, I just wanted to say that I have watched the QoS documentary, as well as all of your essays, and have read Ms. McCurdy's memoir myself and I wanted to say that I agree with your opinion about how people are handling Drake Bell. While I wasn't and am not "caught up in the drama", I'm not on any social media, rarely comment on any videos or talk to anyone irl about this subject at all, I recognize that people are spinning and trying to cast a blanket of sympathy due to Mr. Bell's participation of Quiet on Set. I do understand that he was there solely to speak about his experiences as a child actor, and probably agreed to the interview as long as they didn't juxtapose his own charges with inappropriate minor interaction. However, I think that sympathizing with the child he was and also acknowledging his history a predator himself can and should coexist. Thank you for understanding that a celebrity is a person responsible for their actions and was also a child not responsible for the acts commited on them at the same time. May all the child celebrities from now on have stronger advocacy and rights and protection from now on. May they all heal from the things they can't talk about. Thank you again, you are one of my favorite video essayists. I think you talk about this subject with the most respect.
