It's not like Thief is buying into the idea of paying to pretend to own stuff, she's using the idea to scam gullible morons out of actual stuff. Personally, I'd expect Fighter to be against this plan, if only because it means forgoing a violent resolution. Or maybe he's thinking ahead and knows the dragon will eventually cotton on to the scam and come to seek revenge, a win-win for him.
