Night Fell On Laestra Part I Chp 1 (Patreon)

Night Fell On Laestra is the first and only original novel I ever completed that I am willing to allow to see the light of day (there were four others, written between the ages of 13 and 16, and that is all we're going to say about that.) It was first written when I was 17, last revised when I was 23, and continues to need revision before I'm willing to try to publish it, because firstly, I'm sure it has... the dreaded... ellipsis disease... Everything else I wrote at the time had too many ellipses, so this probably does. Secondly, from a political standpoint I disagree with a lot of the beliefs I held at the time. This is a story about seven teenagers who go on a mission to an alien planet to gather data that can be used to allow outsiders from their organization to come in and engineer a revolution. It's patronizing as shit, and while I think it's perfectly legitimate to have characters with such attitudes, the fact is that the narrative supports them. Also, the native Laestrans are caricatures and seem to have no agency or ability to defend themselves.

So, you know, it needs a lot of revision. But it's a completed original novel, and I have exactly one of them, this one. So I'm going to be posting it here, a chapter at a time, until it's done.
