When I first heard the electric guitar, I knew immediately that’s what I wanted to do forever. The extreme virtuosic power of bands like Dream Theater made me rethink what was possible

I never realized most people don’t appreciate virtuosity until I started making YouTube videos tho. The truth is, the more notes you play, the less people will relate to your music. The sales numbers clearly demonstrate this. Classical and jazz sell worse than all other genres.

Don't despair if you’re someone who enjoys more sophisticated music though. We just need to keep a few things In mind during the creative process. First, write using emotional inspiration, instead of making everything a cerebral process. There’s a time and place for odd time signatures and complex chords….just don’t start a song with the goal of making it the hardest song ever to play. The purpose of music is to communicate your feelings, not to impress others.

The most important compositional concept to ensure you’re music will have a powerful effect on others is PEDAL TONES. This is when you provide a frequent reference to the root pitch of a key. Thunderstruck by AC/DC is a perfect example of this technique in action. The open b string serves as a constant reminder that the note B is home base. The truth is, you CAN get away with flashy licks. Just be sure to have a simple foundation supporting your song

Attached below are some tabs from my Music Theory For Guitarists course. Study the framework of each song to learn what makes them brilliant works of art. They all use simple 4 bar phrases. They typically outline a chord progression and have a strong melody. Just like Albert Einstein’s equation e=mc2, Simplicity is  king!!!
