When I first heard about theory from a fellow guitarist at age 15, It sounded really scary! I refused to give up though. In fact, I decided to attend music school to conquer my fears. With a year of self study beforehand, I was able to barely pass the entrance exam at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles. I spent five years there, taking every class I could in composition, theory, orchestration, arranging and practical musicianship. I was forced to do terrifying things like sing music I’d never seen before in front of the entire class. I've never been so embarrassed in my entire life! The good news was it ignited extreme musical growth in my playing. I was so hungry for knowledge, I played guitar in the orchestra, sang in the choir and jammed with lots of musicians to sharpen my skills.

However, keep in mind the information does build in complexity throughout the course. It's imperative you use my C WORD technique to avoid getting overwhelmed. Aim for 20 minute CHUNKS of extreme focus. Trying to concentrate for too long can be counterproductive. After completing a period of learning it's time for a REWARD! I want to share a secret trick that will inject your potential with steroids. It's all about MINDSET. Without a plan, you’re guaranteed to fail. The SHRED Method utilizes key mechanisms to trigger HUGE results in a short period of time. Science is the first component. By using an external reference point like the metronome, recording yourself and jamming with others, you can measure the progress you’re making. Without measuring what you’re doing, it’s impossible to improve. Heightened Awareness of your personal physiology is crucial to your gains. Pay close attention to your body and how it responds to specific stimulus while playing and learning. Know thyself and become a student of what makes you unique. Ritual is the spiritual aspect of the shred method. Gain perspective by contemplating string theory, the music of the spheres and even mediating with a drone to unlock your creative power. If we're not feeling good, our potential is severely limited. Sleep, diet and exercise plays a crucial role in our capacity to learn and grow. We need energy to focus clearly, prioritize and accomplish our goals. An inactive lifestyle restricts blood and oxygen flow in the body, which produces inflammation.
