Learn the two most important scales and you'll have the tools to craft great music. The two most important scales are the Pentatonic and Major scale. The reason these scales are so important is because the vast majority of the music you'll hear is derived from the notes in these patterns. 

I've included all the modes for both the pentatonic and major scale in tab below. Try writing a song or riff with each one to remember the shapes. It's easier to memorize something you can attach emotional significance to.
