Ever wonder how guys like Marty Friedman play their insane arpeggios licks?

Here's the best arpeggio shapes for metal guitar. Nearly every time you hear guitarists sweep picking or executing some kind of arpeggio line it's going to be from the CAGED system.

The CAGED system is built on the 5 most common open position chord shapes. C, A, G, E and D chords. These patterns are extremely useful for navigating the guitar and playing bad ass arpeggio ideas.

I've included the shapes, as well as some exercises to practice the forms in a musical context with pieces like Pachelbel's "Cannon In D"

Hi Shred, thanks for the shapes! On the second line, I don't see a difference between the A form arpeggio A Major and A Minor . Do I miss something?

Every day I used to wake up to Good Mourning/ Black Friday by Megadeth. One of the most underrated arpeggio songs ever.
