I get asked all the time if I write original music...and the answer is yes. Not as much as I'd like though. I've attached the audio file for an orchestral piece I'm finishing on the diatonic modes. Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and of course Locrian. See if you can hear when the modes change. It's all parallel modulation between modes...or modal interchange. In other words each mode uses the root note A. 

Orchestral programming is a whole skill separate from guitar playing. I find it refreshing to put the guitar down and bring out sounds that I would't normally stumble upon.

This is wonderful! What a great way to hear modes in context. And I have to say, the Aeolian section was PARTICULARLY beautiful!

This is a lesson in modes just listening to this. So can we say this piece never changes keys, it just changes modalities?
