It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I've been up to lately.

Sonic-styled S&F Characters
In the gallery up top, you'll find a big montage of all the character art I drew for this project!

Meanwhile, here are the final two pages of character bios, including a sneak peek at the page going up on the Sam and Fuzzy site on Friday!

The last page is definitely the weirdest one, with Jess serving as a nod to the Sonic "Storybook Series" games, and the return (revenge?) of Mickey Mouse.

Last but not least, here are a couple of timelapse GIFs of me drawing some of this art!

Han and Chewie
I've been away most of the month at conventions, which means a lot of what I have to show this month is commissions that I drew at the shows! To start, here's Han and Chewie from this year's SDCC!

No Such Thing as Too Many Dice
Here's one last behind-the-scenes look at pin design. This time, it's my pin for this year's Gen Con Pin Bazaar... "No Such Thing as Too Many Dice!" This one is for all the dice hoarders out there.

A lot of my previous Gen Con pins have been cats, but since this pin was about hoarding treasure (sort of), I initially thought I might make the cat a sort of dragon/cat hybrid:

But after sketching it out, I decided the dragon aspect was kind of a hat on a hat. Plus, the wings obscured a lot of the dice! So, I polished up a version that was just a cat, and played around with a few colour schemes:

Ultimately, I decided to go with the blue and black:

And here's a photo of how the IRL pin turned out, alongside all the other new pins I made this year!

The Too Many Dice pin is soft enamel, which means the metal lineart is raised, giving it a bit of a 3d look. The other three pins are hard enamel which means the surface of the pin is smooth. The Roll for Initiative pin on the right there is a reprint of my first Gen Con pin... to distinguish the new version from the old, I made the d20 sparkly!

Baker and Dipper
I made this single "example page" of the Sonic-style Baker and Dipper comic while I was traveling! I did all the art on my ipad, and added the lettering with my laptop. Here's a timelapse GIF of the art, which was drawn almost entirely on airplanes:

And here's the finished comic page with the dialogue in place:

This was a lot of fun to make! I don't know if I'll do any more actual comics in this universe, but I guess if I want to, I've certainly got a lot of characters to use!

Con Art
To close things off this month, here's a bunch of pet-themed pieces that I drew for SDCC this year! All four of them are a little unusual, but for different reasons...

First up, here's Danger Dog! The commissioner asked me to draw this portrait in the style of an actual comic book cover, and I had a lot of fun with that:

Next, here's a pair of cats as Deadpool and Wolverine. This one's unusual in that both cats are tripods... they're both missing one of their front legs! Kind of unusual for a pair of characters famed for their ability to regrow body parts. But I think it turned out really cute!

Next up, here's a piece that I was asked to make up like a Magic card. I used a blank template online, and filled it with a variation of the text of an existing dog magic card that the commissioner showed me. In real life this is a fair bit bigger than an actual magic card, but I think it turned out cute! And finally, here's a trio of pets beating up Homelander from The Boys. I was very happy to get this request... it was a riot to draw! The Pets are dressed up as Kimiko, Hughie, and Butcher. I wasn't sure what exactly a Hughie costume would look like, so I just put him in a Billy Joel shirt. Ha!

Thanks everyone! 'til next time.
