Time to reveal a long-running secret! For the past quite a while, some of Annikath's art time has been dedicated not to new scenes, but to new unique art of the characters. Now is the time to reveal it and get your suggestions!

In a future TLS update, players will engage with a quest that results in various characters sitting for in-world portraits. This will be its own set of events, with some hopefully amusing encounters, but the end result will be that players receive these portraits and can use them to customize their base. This is all a bit excessive, but I hope that after spending so much time with these characters, people will find this enjoyable. ^-^

$10 backers got to see all the portraits so far in the most recent art preview, but I'm excited enough about this that I wanted to show everyone a sample. You can see how they resonate with character personalities. Yarra, for example, would absolutely want a pin-up painted of her, so she has one. Megail might not normally, but didn't mind one with Iris. Orcent didn't ask to be portrayed like that, but... well, things happened.

Here is a list of everything done so far:

  • All character bust images have been converted to portrait form, so you can hang up anyone's face.
  • Individuals: Orcent, Simon, Wendis, Yarra, Qum
  • Esthera and Nalili
  • Aka and Sabitha
  • Aka and Uyae
  • Aka and Hilstara
  • Vhala and Dari
  • Megail and Iris
  • Lynine and Orilise
  • Wendis and Robin
  • Wendis and Wynn
  • Qum's Painting

Anyway, that is the plan! Please enjoy the art, give suggestions if you have any, and look forward to this feature later!

The art looks great! I really like that orcent one, and it'll be neat to put portraits of characters in their most frequented rooms. Though, if you don't mind me asking, How does it work in game? Will there be sprites for these portraits that are interactable and show these images, or are the images directly on the wall?

Hell yes

sierralee

This isn't in the game yet, but the concept is that you'll see a little sprite-sized version of all the portraits where you set them, then if you interact with them you'll see the screen-sized version.

Leon Redway

Awww, the portraits are a really neat idea!

Radoslav

:D awesome, this will be fun. Love Orcent here

Badger66

Orcent looks great! But, Megail and Iris is by far my favorite from the three you posted. I think this will be a fun thing for the characters to do, and I would love to see them hanging on the walls.

DankPotatoes

Cool idea! How's it function in terms of retroactive playability? Is it available from the start of chapter 4, early chapter 5 or just after the Incubus King War?

Nathan Phoenix

So does this mean Wendis will finally get that threesome she wanted back in chapter 1?

Leveler All

Considering the lenght of the journey, character development and the memories we have share with the whole cast of TLS, excessive is the last word ill use i find it quiet charming and a great way to show attention to all of them, a good way to reward players who have their favorits and to show the love for all of them.

That's a fun project. I like the School of Athens vibes from Orcent.

Minor bug report from the forums. In the sequence of Guardian battles during Ginasta's rescue and recruitment if Yarra and Qum use the Mass Kiss synergy skill to kill one of the guardians, the healing will be applied to the subsequent battle. This is largely trivial, but I think it could probably be fixed if you make the invocation of common event 19 conditional on there being at least one active enemy. Dunno how feasible that is.

Quiet Stranger

Saint Orcent... I am an extraordinarily big fan of the portraits. I just went through Preview #28 and I was delighted for every last picture I saw. Perhaps some of the best material that Annikath has created for us yet, rivaled only by those delightful comic strips.

Long Tran

Gotta admit. The new custom artwork looks freaking gorgeous!

sierralee

Hmm. While it's illogical for the healing to apply to the next party, I feel like a fix here would be taking healing away from the player. Given how weird the combat conditionals can be, I'm inclined to say that meddling with this would be a mistake.

DukeLeto7

Unless Decanter thinks it might be easier than you suspect, I'd agree.
