Didn't take too long in the series for it to become clear that Light's an effin Monster. She wasn't a criminal. She didn't fit his profile of victim. They say that the Devil is in love with his own intellect and creations. Light panicked and went the way of self-preservation in needing to get rid of her, but as soon as he got the one up on her with his intelligence, it was no longer about trying to stay alive as Kira, it was now a game of cat digging his claw into the mouse he already caught. The tone in his voice as he pulled the phone out - He was savoring the blood of his hunt by that time, and had tossed his humanity aside. Even piece of shit prosecutors who send innocent people to death row just because they needed to 'win' in court don't go parading around before the inmate rubbing it in their face.
