And EJO trashing an expensive museum ship model that had been loaned to the show was not scripted (he assumed it was some cheap model).

Starbuck's mother was more of an insight as to why Starbuck is the way she is. Always up on guard, has to be no 1, self destructive personal relationships, troublemaker. She's always striving for the approval and yet always self sabotaging herself due to her insecurity/pain. If you look back on this episode it was all about putting her affairs in order before her demise, as if she knew on a grander scale that this is where her story ends. Have some tissues handy for Season 4 it's gonna be a doozy.

My father is a bit like Kara's mother. He had to go to great lengths to survive his own childhood. He was abused & neglected. He became a terrible person in a lot of ways, overcompensating with "strength of will", where anything less than perfect was unacceptable - he's a narcissist. One of his favorite things to say to me: "There is no try, only do." - Yoda I ended up living the first half of my life, always on some level, seeking his approval - that he'd never truly give me. Narcissists only approve of themselves. We had one falling out after another. It hurts when you have this person who is supposed to love you and accept you without condition (and you love them), but they can't really do it because that's just who they are. You can't ever live up to their standard. And maybe they rig it that way with the notion that they're making you a stronger person as a result, so you too can survive. But, really, they're just trying to make you as broken and angry as they are. It's no way to live. So, you find yourself in a place where you realize you can just walk out the door - you're "free", but not really. The kid inside of me is still holding out hope & not letting go of my father. Catch-22. He misquoted Yoda, btw. It's actually. "Do. Or do not. There is no try." There is a choice.

"Maelstrom" is a masterfully crafted dip into the eternal conundrum of free will and choice. Tinkering with the idea that humanity might not just be a manifestation of chaos trying to add some context to its own existence, but instead part of a predefined cosmic DNA, which already has the whole Universe set and figured out. It asks the question whether an unknown of such magnitude would make knowing the path or choosing to walk that same path a bigger curse. There is a lot of emphasis on the mandala, which in spiritual context represents the "circle of life" and the notion that every human being, no matter how much it deviates from its circular journey, is always in the center of its own universe. So, what if I told you that the Universe is following those same principles and that we are going to meet here again at this very same spot in 33.5 billion years? What's really going to boggle your mind is whether you would really want to know if I made the story up or not? If so, then ask yourselves, if getting a definitive answer wouldn't just be an incomplete statement limited by our own current perception of reality? Oh well... I guess we'll find out soon enough... Peace and long life 🖖
