This was probably the most singularly influential book in my life. I have owned at least six copies since I first discovered it in 1993. Yes, the movie makes a lot of changes, but that’s kind of part of the hitchhikers guide. It started out as a radio, drama, and then became a book which changed a lot of things, then it became a TV mini series, which also changed a lot of things. It’s kind of part of hitchhikers DNA for changes to be made. Some of the fun is experiencing the different versions and your favorite parts from them. I highly recommend reading at least the first book. And since other people are sharing Douglas Adams, trivia and information, he was very proud of the fact that he was born the same year that DNA was discovered, and that he shared his initials with the discovery. Douglas Noel Adams. He was a big nerd, gadget junkie, atheist, science lover, and a man that had a beautiful grasp of the English language. He also wrote a few episodes of Doctor Who, and if you watch them, you can see connections to the hitchhikers guide. Now get ready to start noticing every 42 reference in the galaxy, and there are a lot of them. 🤣 Never forget to be a goopy food that knows where her towel is.

I love this movie! Nate, great choice! I’ll leave it to others to go into a lot of the details. It’s been so long since I read the book, all I can say is that I remember there being a lot of differences, but they were all necessary to get this to fit into a movie, and I think they did a good job. The biggest loss, in my mind, was the loss of all the actual entries in the in-universe “Hitchhiker’s Guide”. But Stephen Fry as the voice of the Guide as a sort of Narrator was awesome. (I loved him as Fiddler’s Green in The Sandman!). Read the book, but I also recommend anything by Terry Pratchett, who has a similar sense of humor as Douglas Adams. Good Omens was a collaboration (as a book) between Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and is awesome (and a fun series, too!).
