Fun fact I just found! Harbour mentioned that there were discussions of Mrs. Claus appearing in a potential sequel during production of the first film. The actor expressed interest in seeing Charlize Theron in the role. Wirkola confirmed that there have been ongoing discussions between him and the writers; with potential for Mrs. Claus, the North Pole, and the elves factoring into the story. The filmmaker stated that the realization of a follow-up movie depends on the success of the first film. Producer Kelly McCormick confirmed that all creatives involved intend to make a sequel with work on the project commencing. In January, it was confirmed that a sequel is already in the works.

The cheesy one-liners are absolutely what makes this movie for me. That and the ridiculous action scenes with creative uses for objects related to Christmas and winter. The hockey skate fisticuffs might be my favorite gag, but there are so many good ones, it's hard to pick. I would be very surprised if the original pitch for this movie wasn't "let's do Die Hard with Santa Claus". This movie takes inspiration from a few different things, but I'd say it is at least 75% Die Hard. A bunch of goons crashing a Christmas party? Check. Hacking into a big vault with a round door? Check. The hero getting bloodied while taking out bad guys on the sly? Check. The hero communicating with a good guy and the bad guys via radio? Check. Soldiers on snowmobiles that turn out to be bad guys? Check. Cheesy one-liners? Check. In my mind, the not-so-secret subtitle for Violent Night is "A Die Hard Story". Maybe the universe will be nice and give us a sequel in about a year at the end of 2024. We can only hope.
