I think what makes this show good, is that you only had one season. Didn’t get a chance to mess it up. I don’t think I want another season, it wouldn’t be the same.

That's one reason I love Battlestar Galactica. It had a defined end Ron Moore and company had in mind and didn't go on and on and peter out. Instead, it ended on a strong(ish)(debatable) note.

While maybe low for its time, Firefly averaged over 4.6 million viewers per episode. Fast forward to today where Succession, a widely popular modern TV show, drew a "record breaking" 2.5 million viewers across all platforms with the premier of the first episode of the newest 4th season. It could be an apples to oranges comparison from 2002 to 2023, but every time I re-watch firefly it blows my mind that someone at Fox drop kicked this big beautiful diamond into the abyss.

Out Of Gas is a good one but my third overall. First is Our Mrs Reynolds, the second favorite of mine is Ariel...the next episode.

Two fun facts: Kaylee mentions to Mal about needing to replace the catalyzer in Shindig and that if it breaks their humped. And second Gina Torres was getting married during the filming of this episode, that is why she gets knocked out early on.

And you can see in this episode, that he isn't just dumb muscle/gunman, he is actually a capable spacer and crewman. Not letting the Doc through or telling Mal and Walsh to stop wasting Oxygen, immediately following orders in a crisis (unlike Walsh and Kaylee) that is actually competent behaviour!

The BSG ending is nearly perfect IMHO, but I do grant that it’s possible to misinterpret (and consequently underappreciate) if the viewer isn’t paying close enough attention right down to the final line.

Definitely a great episode but also a top-notch reaction. I’ve watched this series three times from end-to-end and also seen innumerable reactions to individual episodes, but until you pointed it out I never recognized how much the attraction between Kaylie and Simon is reinforced by the commonality of their roles as “ship’s doctors”. Similarly I never fully connected the attraction between Inara and Mal to their mutual love for Serenity. I appreciate the series even more thanks to these and other insights you’ve shared in your reactions. I’m glad you enjoy what you do, because you’re very good at it!

I used to be an aerospace engineer. (That's why I love that this show gets it right that there's no sound in space). If you don't care about the actual science stop reading now. ' ' You don't "run out of air" (oxygen) in a situation like this. There will still be plenty of oxygen left when everyone's dead of carbon dioxide toxicity. It's your exhales that will kill you. River, genius that she is, is wrong about them freezing to death. Contrary to popular belief space is not cold. Temperature is a property of matter. It represents how fast the atoms are vibrating. That's why there can be such a thing as "absolute zero" -- the temperature where all energy has been sucked out of matter and the atoms have stopped vibrating entirely. So empty space by definition has no temperature. And vacuum is actually an excellent insulator (hence the "vacuum layer" in a thermos). The biggest temperature issue for a space ship is overheating, not freezing, because the waste heat from machinery and people (you give off as much heat as a 100 watt light bulb) has nowhere to go. Back when we had the Space Shuttle the reason they opened the cargo bay doors as soon as they got to orbit was because that's where the radiators were that helped dissipate the waste heat.

In the Apollo 13 emergency the temperature in the command module dropped to around 50°F, and they had 3 people in a lot smaller space and the sun also provides a lot of energy at that distance. If the Serenity gets even less energy (how much depends on the distance from the star, orientation and colour) and there is no waste head because the ship is dead, cold absolutely can become an issue, it just should take awhile, the ship is a lot larger than the Apollo 13 capsule and has a much larger thermal mass. And also of course a larger surface, but the Square-Cube law tells us it should take significantly longer to cool out. But in a week or two, it would start to get really frosty!
