John is the best human . They got lucky he ended up there . I mean we do have a lot of ass holes on this planet if some of them ended with Moya and the crew show would ended with Pilot episode 😀

🎶Yo, listen up here's a story About our Pa'u Zhaan Who lives in a blue world And all day and all night And everything she sees is just blue Like her inside and outside Blue her skin With blue little eyeballs And a blue priest robe And everything is blue for her And herself and everybody around Cause she ain't got nobody to listen to Zhaan's blue Da ba dee da ba di🎶 ....I couldn't resist. 😂

These Delvians think using the same route to seize power in the same way they were ousted is the way. They think the easy way is the only way. Using the insanity (Alzheimer's?) as a ploy to get Zhaan to play along giving them what they want, power. Although for this story it's kind of a throwaway because their story ends here. You get a sense of how Zhaan was before with how power hungry Tahleen was acting. Easily and without forethought or remorse she used her abilities to mess with peoples minds in order to achieve her goals. It was all about the goals with the false sense of righteousness that made what she was doing truly evil. Zhaan not only did the coup that led to the peacekeepers becoming their overlords and dooming some of her people, but it was how easily she betrayed/murdered the man she loved. My guess is that this transference process that happened during the Unity changed her and it was her lover leaving a part of him that ended up setting her on her path of redemption. Giving her guilt/shame changing her path and leading her to prison.

I quite liked this episode. Zhaan fell off the wagon, but John shared his strength so she can start again. The Delvin seem to be a race of pacifists, which culminated in them hiring (surrendering to?) the Peacekeepers as security. Like protection racketeering. Zhaan then killed her love at his most vulnerable and set off a coup. This sect now wants the ability to kill without going insane. They’ll probably spread that knowledge with other Delvians and that knowledge might eventually reach their home. The father likened it to an infection, so it’s kinda liking unleashing a plague on your own people just to resist the Peacekeepers. It would turn her people in to warriors.

A long long time ago. In a galaxy far away. Naboo was under an attack...no wait.. yeah what ^ he said

The Delvian religious/mysticism stuff was always a bit confusing. I don't think the writers quite figured out what they wanted it to be, but the reveal of Zhaan's crime was a great moment - killing someone you love for the greater good is a painful, powerful thing to do. Whenever the show focused on the darkness inside the gentle, compassionate priest, it gave Virginia Hey the chance to show how talented she is. But I know she was a little annoyed to see other Delvians being allowed to have hair, after shaving her head for the role. John is always the conscience of the crew, and always the guy who will stand by someone's side when they need him. That's a recurring theme in the show, no matter how annoyed everyone is at each other.

I said in the last video that all but one of the next 6 were great, this was the one. Not to say that it is a bad episode, though it was a little confused to me. but it just doesn't elicit the same type of emotional response for me as the next 5 episodes in particular. Each one either brings something big or something fun to the table, in my opinion. I won't say more. I think Angela nailed the biggest issue with this episode for me, the goals of the Delvians never seemed to make any type of sense. Beyond that, the episode is an interesting dive into the relationship between John and Zhaan. She is as quick as any of the others to criticise John for his "Human" failings as they see them, however he is her first choice for a companion when push comes to shove, and here it saves her from her darkest impulses.

John's action in the story was support for Zhaan's story. We needed to know her crime and her journey/struggles/goals to better understand her character. We also got to see the powers of the Delvians and some of John's backstory as well.

Notes from a Farscape fan: 1) A clarification on the Delvians' plans. First off, I think it's deliberately kind of ambiguous to create an air of mystery around the spirituality of it all, though I don't think that necessarily worked to the episode's advantage. The plan was this: in order to pull of their own coup d'etat, they needed to be as strong as possible, so they ran to this remote temple to train to become really powerful as quickly as possible. As Delvians quite literally rank up in pa'u levels, their spiritual powers get stronger, but doing so opens them to insanity and corruption by violent impulse. The way around this is to take their time and level up slowly, but this sect wants to do it quick and wants their whole sect to do it, so they need a way to stave off the madness. Zhaan committed a murder and is still sane, something that should be impossible, so they want to learn her method of self-control, because with it they could achieve their power-leveling plans without risk, and maybe even gain the power to kill without going insane. The problem is: Zhaan's self-control is deeply tied into her motivations, and Tahleen's motivations were already corrupt, so she was pretty much already nuts. 2) John's flashback once again displays the realism ethos of the show: he finds himself in a romance plotline where his love interest is going to take a job across the country, but he was going to propose, and she's leaving soon, oh no, what will he do?! Will he propose right now? Will he run to catch her at the airport? Will he abandon his life in Florida to join her at Stanford? No. Of course not. They'd already discussed the idea of a break, and it sucks for them, but sometimes that's just how it goes. He's sad, but it is what it is. 3) Another show that I fell in love with recently, and I reckon you would absolutely adore is an anime called Delicious in Dungeon (one season down, one to be made, D&D adjacent, found family dynamics, excellent dub starring Emily Rudd/Nami from One Piece). The writer of the manga, Ryoko Kui, went about character design in a world filled with a myriad of different species in a concerted way. She deliberately designed each character, even minor ones, to look distinct enough that you could swap their clothes and hairstyles and still tell them all apart. I love Star Trek and Star Wars, but that's something I've found they struggle with when it comes to particularly alien aliens. This episode is one of the first times where we see a lot of one specific non-humanoid race in one place and I feel they do a pretty decent job making each of the Delvians distinct. I think they could have gone a little more out there with some of the hair designs, maybe some subtly different shades of blue, but I do like seeing lots of members of one of our core cast's species all together. It's always fun to see another Delvian, and will perhaps be fun to meet some members of other core cast's species in the future.
