Yup, the Season 4 webisodes ("The Face of the Enemy") are actually VITAL viewing prior to watching the mutiny-arc of the main TV show -- they really do humanize and contextualize nearly all of Gaeta's actions later on, but sadly due to new WGA compensation-requirements at the time, they weren't included on the Season 4 BDs/DVDs (unlike the previous two webisode-series). You can still easily watch them on YouTube, though.

I saw the webisodes before the second half of season 4 aired. It didn’t do much to dispel my rage at the time.

I thought Adama was intense in season 1 for dressing down Chief when his deck crew were lying for him. His declaration of “You…you’ll die with nothing.” Is a whole other level. It’s interesting that the mutiny primarily seems to be within the Pegasus crew and Colonial Marines. Going all the way back to the stolen explosives independent tribunal in season 1, it’s felt like the Marines operate within their own command structure and culture to some degree like real USMC within the USN. I can’t recall if we see any Adama allied marines in these episodes or if the whole branch participates in the mutiny.

I am sure there is a small chance for a Gaeta come back, no? 😂😅 Honestly it is a bit weird how we (yes including myself) support the now "good cylons", specially the eights and the six'es and "THE best six" as you said, even though she did break a baby's neck and played a major role in the genecide of the human race 😅😅 and yet we are like "shoot him, I don't care, how dare they go against Adama and the crew" lmao

Oh for sure if there was a way to move forward without the Cylons I’m all for it but unfortunately we need them. It’s not necessarily support of the Cylons. It’s support of the fleet.

Yeah out of necessity, but still, there is a bit of likeliness for those cylons either way, even after everything they have done. We also have to remind ourself that we, as an audience, know a lot more than the characters making decisions.. Probably most of those 30 something thousands people have never had a face to face chat with a Cylon or know anything good they have done.

Your feelings on Starbucks Black & White view is why her & Cain got along and respected each others position. They have the same worldview of right and wrong. Unfortunately this little civil war she is exactly the type of person needed. For this to have gotten to this point no quarter can be given without a cost, past relationships are too much of a risk. They're out for blood at this point and you can't reason with someone already itching for an excuse to kill you without hesitation. It's not bloodlust but pure unflinching survival at its best. Gaeta made his choice, even though the websisodes flesh out his backstory this is where he has been even before New Caprica. He compartmentalizes his mistakes in choosing the wrong path with his overzealous desire to force his way of viewing things on others to justify himself. He did it with Baltar on New Caprica and he's unfortunately found the same outlet with Zarek now. Felix and Lee are very similar in the belief that their ways is the righteous one and once they get going it's an unflinching one way street. I know your invested in Gaeta but this is his plan and his execution of said plan. He spills blood but tries to absolve himself of the act so oblivious that these are the actions he brought about. Trying to have clean hands through a mutiny only shows how unserious a person he is. He's got this vision of a clean bloodless coup ,arresting Adama & Tigh with a plan of charges, but he's trying to do it with a crew of mutineers who don't share the fantasy land he's living in. A petulant child playing in grown up games he's unfamiliar with.

I found myself disliking Gaeta a lot more than Zarek here. Zarek knows what he is is doing and what is needed. Gaeta is trying to fool himself and others that it’s some kind of noble pursuit and it’s his fault it all falls apart

Yeah, Gaeta had this intricate plan in his head thinking it would all fall into place. Even when he sees the deckhand and Jaffee killed he still thinks he can salvage this cleanly. Rationalizing it as acceptable losses for what he considers his greater good.Zarek on the other had the clearer vision of what they were doing and just how dirty things would get.
