This week, we have essentially completed the work on fixing legacy issues brought about by the upgrade to Unreal Engine 5. Lumen and the new lighting architecture provide us with an opportunity to further enhance the character visuals, and we have decided to start with skin rendering.

We have configured three new diffuse and SSS solutions for the characters' skin material. The goal is to more realistically reflect the glow of the skin and to ensure that the characters' skin appears elastic rather than overly smooth under complex lighting conditions. Please check the attached images and select the scheme you prefer.

Solution #1... First, my monitor is 1440p and HDR enabled. (This will, of course, effect how we see these images.) Solution #1 has a bit of a shine but more accurately depicts the texture on the body. It's my personal view that texture is more important than shine. You can clearly see the roughness and uneven bumps in the flesh. The water stream are also VERY clear. S1 feels as if a photography light was pointed at the body. S2 is very generic and tones down the texture. Ultimately, this gives me console vibes. The less detail is simply not worth the trade-off. I understand not wanting bright sheen, but so much is lost with this implementation. S2 feels as if the photography light was switched with a softbox. S3 is interesting. I can't really say I like it. It feels like a cross between the two with more texture than S2 and less shine than 1, buuuuuuut I feel like I'm looking at some odd global illumination from 5 years ago. The texture is still there, but the shine doesn't feel natural. S3 is the worst of both worlds. To summarize, I love the texture of solution #1 and while I understand the shine is a bit much, the tradeoff is worth it for the enhanced detail.

实名上网,我寻思能不能做成可调的。个人受不了3D感,当然可以说这是个人风格偏好问题。但是客观来说,保留3d观感显得泯然众人了是不是,(何况也已经升虚幻5了,不如就做点差异化优秀特点出来)。个人感觉精细和真实感是第一优先,不然直接出门左转3d区或者自制好了。看这个案子的规划,剧情和play很难做出什么成果(除非做个deep又dark的震撼剧情)。与其瑟瑟内容沦为实时渲染的视频,不如突出材质和模型自定义,让用户至少感觉买了一套优秀且不断更新的数字资产。
