The JJK0 movie came out before this season started, so there was always the question of why Geto is still walking around after he was beaten and was near death while Gojo was in front of him. Turns out, Gojo DID kill him but then his corpse was taken over by something else. Was a pretty big thing for anime only viewers like myself (I avoided catching up with the manga for this series so I could enjoy the anime without spoilers). Still, even with all that setup, it's still a pretty huge risk to bet that Gojo would be stand still in shock for 1 whole minute while trying to come to terms with he fact that Geto is still alive. If he doesn't do that then it's curtains for their whole plan. All the other cursed spirits were still paralyzed from him using his domain expansion for just 2/10th of a second, if he wasn't captured he could have definitely killed them all.

Some people start calling fake Geto "Brain-kun" from this point on. Since we don't yet know who the brain is or what its name might be. Edit: And since we don't really want to associate actual Geto with the shit that Brain-kun keeps pulling, which doesn't seem to have a noble goal, unlike what Geto wanted.

Geto's goal was not noble. Eradicating cursed spirits was just an excuse Geto made for himself that told him it was okay for him to massacre almost the entire human population, whom he deemed inferior to himself. In the end, he just wanted to kill people. It's like saying the Unabomber's goal was noble.
