From a purely logic standpoint, killing him does make sense. Him suppressing sukuna doesn't mean he'll always be able to (sukuna's mouth popping out randomly shows he isn't fully in control) and having sukuna running around in a powerful body is a worst case scenario. They can't even destroy sukuna's fingers after he's dead, imagine what a full powered living version of him would be.

So fun fact about when Yuji is picking up the bones of his grandfather after the cremation, usually Japanese tradition is for family to pass the bones between each other. It's sad that Yuji has to do it all alone, and probably reminds him that his grandpa didn't want a death like that for him.

when I was younger I did the passing of the bones for my grandpa when he passed away with my relatives. I'm not the best with chopsticks so I was super focused and terrified to not drop him I wasnt able to feel how substantial what I was doing actually was. :X it's a strange cultural experience now I look back at it XD I like the principal's grading system on whether you're prepared. I imagine if someone died as of the result of following someone else's wishes you could possibly inadvertently create a curse caused by your last thoughts of regret no matter how sure you think your prepared before that moment
