now that I'm finally back from my holiday I can finally talk about this show. Frieren isn't your typical Shonen series, it's published in Shonen Sunday, a magazine that despite being "Shonen" actually skews a bit more to a female demographic, some series you'll know from it include its two staple creators Gosho Aoyama the creator of Detective Conan (our good friend Jimmy), and Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, Urusei yatsura, Mao), as well as series like Magi, fly me to the moon and Silver Spoon. I think one of the things I love most about this series is the sense of subtly the writing has, it doesn't always need to say something outright like some other series do to get a message across, you understand how the characters feel and think from their actions, like something I didn't realise until reseeing the series is that one of the spells Frieren mentions having collected in her journey with Fern was the ability to turn sweet grapes into sour grapes, you'd think it was a nothing little throwaway joke about a useless spell, but it's not, last episode we found out Eisen the Dwarf's favourite food is sour grapes, Frieren might think she doesn't understand people, but clearly her friends from 80 years ago left an impression on her if she remembered something that small, and took the effort to eventually find a spell like that. when the two reunited last episodes you could see she used the spell to turn the grapes she had sour to give to him. Like to me that's an amazing character moment, and all of it was done without having to acknowledge it in the story.

To give stark credit, he still put himself in front of the dragon. That's something.
