Lucci just managed to get an even matchup against Gear 2 and 3 Luffy, and he thought things would go his way just because he reached his awakening. Bro was not prepped for Gear 5th. And yeah, not to sound like a broken record mimicking everyone else, but it is very important to contexualize that Gear 5 Luffy did not beat Kaido, if for no other reason than to not disrespect Kaidos strength. Kid, Law, Killer, Zoro, Luffy and later even Yamato took out Kaido, who had been keeping an entire island afloat that entire time, and he still beat Luffy twice. By the time Gear 5 rolled around, it was just the final nails in the coffin. Though this is not to say you're wrong, Luffy is absolutely toying with Lucci atm, sooner or later he will get folded like a WWE chair

On a different note, a very interesting thing to ponder. According to Vegapunk once a Zoan user reaches their awakening it usually overwrites their personality. You can tell hints of that happening with Lucci too, he never used to be very rash, bloodthirsty yes, but always cold, respectable and calculating. Now after Awakening hes cranked his predator nature up to 11. So to ask ourselves, how much of Awakened Gear 5th Luffy is actually Luffy?
