What I'm very slightly confused about is, changing world lines doesn't create or destroy them. It only transfers Original_Okarin's consciousness from one to the other, right? Since Suzuha_Titor said that the worldlines "exist". So, it's all about making him (and the audience, since we're following the show from his perspective) live out in the "optimal" worldline. Even if he/we changed into a worldline where Feyris' dad died, THIS version of Feyris would continue to live in the worldline where her dad is alive right? This may be cold but if the above is correct, Okarin shouldn't give a crap about any of those NPCs. Am I wrong? Or is it that the other worldlines exist in a quantum-like state, i.e. only the possibility of them exists until observed (by Okarin)? Has anyone figured it out?

A multiverse doesn’t exist in steins gate. Only one at a time. Whenever that timeline changes, the current reality is overwritten and everyone’s memories change (except Okabe)

It seems that what is happening with faris is a toned down version of the reading Steiner. There seem to be sometimes senses of deja video that people feel and they may even have memories from the previous timeline. Okabe is likely an extreme example of this where he retains all of his memories.
