Love this whole episode, but the moment Wing and Killua had their one on one talk to the end is just soooooooo well done. The vibes are immaculately creepy and exciting at the same time. Also, if you take another look at the silhouettes of the three people who had the "traditional nen greeting", you will probably recognize them now

First... have you decided to forgo heating your apartment? Is this an environmental stance, some type of ascetic training, a ploy to get more people to move to higher levels on Patreon? I think that the translators were trying to get across the pun in the English title. In Japanese, it was gekitou x to x kattou: a fierce battle, and the troublesome consequences of it. The name of the fire hydrant, Gido, is almost certainly a play on the word "Kido," which means revolution/rotation/orbit. Speaking of which, one of my other nerd fascinations is astronomy, and when you said "how do you see the unseen," all I could think of was dark matter / dark energy and the current science world drama over whether dark matter is real or not. There's increasingly large amounts of evidence that most of the universe is full of ... something? It's a something we can't see or sense in any way we know how other than by its effect on the very few things we can see. And like you said, where do you even go from there?

I loved their conversation. When I first watched this show when I was maybe 18, I enjoyed it for its surface level story. But on subsequent watches, the depth of the characters, the moral ambiguity, the underlying exhilarating creepiness.. it all really brings the show to life.

The three bullies (spinning top being one of them) were the ones who got the nen greeting btw. That's how he lost his legs I imagine.

We did in fact see those who suffered the traditional nen greeting. We saw their silhouettes before we meet them. Gido and his 2 buddies. Gido - double amputee, guy without his arm, and the paraplegic in the wheel chair

Heating is just bad for all the electronic equipment involved, unfortunately 😅

Btw, Ten, Hatsu, Zetsu, and Ren are all part of Nen. Which means that anyone who learns Nen, learns all those 4 principles. They're not divided among different people as you surmised.

I was just thinking they might each have a natural strength in one area over the others

Also, if you find yourself in a room with people who are all more perceptive than you to the point where they can all see something in you that you can't, I'd personally never want to leave such a room. Cause on average people aren't that perceptive in general, and usually too self-occupied to notice subtleties about others like that. So, personally, it'd be great to be surrounded by such sensitive folk. And if they're not malicious, then they'd probably tell you what they perceive in you anyway, if it's important enough.

It's nice to see characters acknowledging Gon's recklessness. Less nice seeing Hisoka's response to it but we'll just move past that lol. I also love how much Killua cares for Gon. They didn't even meet that long ago, but I adore their relationship. It shows how much of an effect Gon has on the people around him. Technically I could update my list now that Hatsu has gotten a description, but I'll wait till there's a larger batch of stuff to add. Plus, the show's current pre-intro sequence covers the 4 principles well. It's cool to see Gon learning Zetsu during combat, and the reasoning is even better. The idea that he was able to learn it so quickly because he could basically already do it from his experience hunting Hisoka is great.

The author has said in interviews that, while he had certain characters somewhat planned out in terms of their trajectory as well as the world building, he only had the first 3 chapters planned when he started the series, which I think is really neat. It helps that he was already a successful mangaka with a long series under his belt (YuYu Hakusho).

After getting an idea of the world and establishing some character personalities, Togashi said that he was confident that he could write this story forever. Very unique writing style that is the opposite of someone like Isayama (I commonly compare the two) and it blows my mind every time.

Your analysis of Gon and his motivation/relationship to his father at 12:10 is so good!!

23:27 "Maybe he'll read about it, searching for a cure to his advanced aging." You didn't have to do my boy Leorio like that 😭
