Really looking forward to V1 E8

FullmetalNinja25

Notes: -Ren is played by series creator Monty Oum himself. -Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha and Ren are all genderbent versions of often fictionalized historical characters Jaune is Joan Of Arc, Nora is Thor, Pyrrha is Achilles and Ren is Fa Mulan. -"Birdie no!" was improvised by Lindsay Jones and they decided to keep it lol.

jessie H

Nora is a chaos gremlin and we love her

FullmetalNinja25

Ship Names: -Jaune x Pyrrha is Arkos (Combining their last names Arc and Nikos) -Ren x Nora is Renora (Self-explanatory) -Yang x Blake is BumbleBY (Spelled that way so as not to confuse it with Yang's motorcycle which is called Bumblebee) -Ruby x Weiss is White Rose (Actually don't know the origin of this one lol)

LikeCat

And after Monty passed away his brother took over as Ren's voice actor

KimSea009

there are mini episodes called "world of remnant" (I think, it's been awhile) and maybe some about their fairy tales too? that help with world building knowledge

Aly Adams

I always forget how funny Volume 1 is, like the comedy is phenomenal

cipher

All the other characters are just black shadow people because volume 1 was made on a stupid low budget. They literally did not have the money to give them faces.

Rachel Mae

Comrade Pyrrha makes her appearance (old fndm joke based on her very serious “it seems some of our comrades have encountered the enemy” line) can’t wait for the next episode!

Luna

I love this sooooo much

Bernhard

Damn, those episodes are short. I thought with four of them we’d get the full initiation plot but no! The next reaction can’t come soon enough.

LikeCat

Also, whats with Yang and birds? I mean she might have hit a few on the way, but still.

Terrafan

This is such a great thing to wake up to on a Monday morning. A reaction to a show I love, by a reactor who's engaged, engaging and is loving the show. A win win for everyone.

Marisa Maribel

Weiss means white in German, and then add Ruby’s last name Rose. That’s where White Rose comes from.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Excellent call that the quick black blur at 16:45 was Blake. According to the creators, she was scoping Yang out to see if she'd be suitable to partner up with. Speaking of Yang, her "Nailed it!" as she landed was improvised by her VA, Barbara Dunkelman.

Marisa Maribel

Pyrrha is named that after the Greek originated term Pyrrhic Victory, which itself is named after King Pyrrhus of Epirus.

kywolf55

I absolutely adore this series so happy your watching it 😍

Marisa Maribel

Plus, having unimportant background characters being undefined or blacked out is a common anime and manga trope, that similarly comes from cost saving measures. So it makes sense that the very anime inspired RWBY used it.

Octavia Hutchens

Nora, Ren, pyrrha and jaune have some of my favorite inspirations. They are all based on mythological or historical figures who cross dressed at some point. Nora is based on Thor Pyrrha is Achilles Ren is Mulan And jaune is Joan of arc

Fusssel

could also be a play on the fairy tale "Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot" I think "Snow-White and Rose-Red" in english. I know that Ruby is based on Rotkäppchen (Little red riding hood) and Weiß is based on Schneewittchen (Snow White) but it could still fit.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

That whole opening sequence for episode 4 came out of the fact that Monty had given co-writers Miles & Kerry very little guidance for writing Ren and Nora — just that Ren is "honorable" and Nora is "powerful". So M&K developed the idea that one of them is a "morning person" and the other very much isn't; this eventually worked out to Nora being a high-energy chaos goblin, and Ren being much more quiet and reserved. The writers like to joke that both characters draw their physical energy from the same pool, but Nora hogs most of it.

Ashtyn

I love how many little details you notice that I never did on my first or even second watch. You're so smart! Keep it up! 😁

Kitsune Kokoro

Yep, although I recommend against "reading ahead" with them. WoR episodes were interspersed with Volumes 2, 3, and 4, and there may be some spoilers for earlier volumes in them- id have to go back to be sure, but I believe the one about Faunus has some spoilers at least, and probably better safe than sorry on the others. They're definitely good worldbuilding and worth watching, but I wouldn't watch them before their respective volumes.

AlexiMantic

And we have begun our descent into the middle of Volume 1. I'm so glad you are loving this show like us, its such a delightful show Monty made, despite being made with the equivalent of $6 and a shoebox for budget xD. As people have probably mentioned, the characters in this show are inspired by fairytale and myth characters and figures, it's always fun meeting a new character and trying to fgiure out their inspiration, some being more obvious cough Glynda cough.

Octavia Hutchens

If rwby comes out on top in the little competition with vox and Hilda will there be more frequent uploads of it or will it still be one a week?

{L} Frances

Okay, so looks like for V1 the rest of her reactions with be 8-10, 11-14 and 15-16. Whenever she reaches 20+ min. seems to be a good strategy for reactions going forward.

Ko Villa

I was pleasantly surprised to see 4 episodes instead of 3 today. Pyrhha and Jauna have the greatest chemistry in these episodes, I love how she's such a badass and yet apologizes in such a sweet way to Jaune whenever she hurts him. Blake and Yang are an interesting pair due to their personalities, I never noticed how their colors complement each other though. Great reaction as always, can't wait for the next one, episode 8 is where the action turns up to 11!

Terrell

Pretty sure it'll just be one a week still bc it's just replacing one of these shows

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

It's also drawn from the Greek word for "fire", and, by association, red hair — an old term for red-headdedness was "pyrrhotism".

og.monstr

I already know which characters I prefer, I'll say that much. Others, though, it's clear they're falling into boring old tropes, especially the comic relief.

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

I don't know where you're getting the episodes from, but this is the first time I've ever seen them with the full intro each time. Before, it's always been that the first episode had the full intro, then the rest had a 30-second version that jumped straight to the chorus ("This'll be the day we've waited for", &c.), which worked much better given the short runtimes.

Phineas5381

At this rate, I can easily see this show becoming a staple for your channel. And with some of the things you said this video (I won’t say which ones. If you know, you know) I cannot wait to see you continue😉👍🏻

Vince

Oh this is too good, I love how much you’re enjoying it!! But I’m also cackling every time you bring up Blake and Yang it’s such a struggle—I forgot how *good* and pure everything was at the start even tho I already see shit I’m like *WAR FLASHBACKS* Episode 8 is, as everyone else has said, The Episode, everyone together and the first time we knew this show was going to be *something special*.

SauceyRed

The series called "World of Remnant" that others here are talking about is a series of videos that explain different things about the world (planet is called "Remnant"): history, fairy tales, how things function, what certain things are, etc. They're not necessary, but they are very helpful in adding context to the world and explaining some things more clearly than in the show (and sometimes talking about things not ever talked about in the show but which are still relevant). World of Remnant (WoR) videos are incredibly short (1-7 minutes long) and could easily be put in the same video of a regular episode, although there *are* proper times to watch them, in order to avoid spoilers. If you ever plan to watch the World of Remnant video (which I also recommend), here's an order that should be safe from spoilers: - After finishing V2: - Dust - Kingdoms - Grimm - Aura - After finishing V3: - Vytal Festival Tournament - Hunstmen - Cross Continental Transmit System - The Four Maidens - After finishing V4: - Vale - Mistral - Atlas - Vacuo - Between Kingdoms - Faunus - Schnee Dust Company - The Great War

SauceyRed

If you end up with RWBY as the main series, you should know about something. It’s a tradition in the RWBY reaction community to react to each volume’s lyrical songs at the end of each one before starting the next one. Not everyone does it, but most reactors do, and it’s honestly just a good thing to do either way, on-camera or not. Almost all of the songs relate to one or multiple characters. Some things are not entirely canon since Jeff Williams wrote the songs without running the lyrics by Monty or the other writers, afaik, but obviously he knew the characters and had insider knowledge, so it’s no surprise that like 90% of the lyrics hit pretty much in the center with the characters they’re about.

LikeCat

The Red like Roses (as of Volume 9) now trilogy of songs.

Kitsune Kokoro

It's an effect of RWBY starting as a passion project with a budget of "dig in the couch cushions for spare change". The episodes do get longer with later volumes, as the crew got more practice, more funding, and a larger fanbase. One of my favorite things about the show is watching how it grows from "rough in places but with a lot of heart" to "holy shit this is gorgeous and epic".

pneuma163

I'm so glad that you're enjoying this so much - hardly surprising at all. RWBY has so many details, some of which you're catching, others that you may just kinda notice, and plenty that you won't know have importance until later chapters and volumes - and yes, it's all intentional. Even with these early chapters and their tiny production budgets of money and time, so much is happening in the visuals, music, sound cues, plot, and lore that remains not just relevant but important. And, yes, this is vague to avoid spoiling things. But it's very satisfying to see you catch some particular details. I can't find a source on it now, but apparently Ruby's "birdy, no!" was improvised - it fits Ruby's personality as well as something you noticed that'll come up next episode. I'm so excited!

Just a Jinx

Was that really 4 episodes? It seemed like 2

Phineas5381

Well, they are technically two-parter episodes, so they kind of were.

pneuma163

I'll second this - WoR videos released between specific chapters if you want to look up release dates for a more specific order you can, but this order works well. They're informative and interesting (and very short). Also the volume 4, 5, and 6 character shorts are the other thing to consider, but I think they're actually even more important than WoR - that's even farther in the future, though.

Liam Gradwell

Yep, Elijah definitely loves Blake and Yang now. As we all do. 😍

Flufux

I definitely sympathise with the need to binge it. When I finally decided to watch RWBY, I became obsessed with it and binged all nine volumes, and was kinda flabbergasted when I at the time reached a volume 9 episode, and then...I...gasp...had to wait a whole week for the next episode, and I was not prepared for that. The wait after volume 9 have been kinda...torture though. Now the show has even been bought out by a new company and I have no idea when it will continue.

BrightHeart

I should point out, as a warning, that if you look at the World of Remnant thumbnails on the official RWBY youtube channel, the 4 videos after V2 (dust, kingdoms, grimm, aura) have a spoiler in the thumbnail, so probably shouldn't react after V2,

Jittercritter

“How do these two work together?” They don’t 💀 On a more serious note, I absolutely love how the differences in fighting styles adds to the characterization and background of each (I’ll only be touching on the character’s whose backgrounds have already been demonstrated) 1.) Weiss: Strategic but woefully inexperienced. She was thinking way too much/being way too by the book during the Beowolf fight, and she was unable to adapt. She has every type of dust including ice—she could have put the fire out. Instead, she panicked and ran from a fight Ruby described as ‘easy.’ Remember Weiss is “Heiress to the Schnee Dust Company.” The fight we saw in the intro was likely her first time in a real fight rather than training. 2.) Ruby on the other hand didn’t think at all. She’s used to being completely surrounded and being able to just go nuts. It’s ironic that the younger one (and the one Weiss has been bossing around) is by far more knowledgeable on fighting these things than Weiss is. 3.) Yang was clearly extremely at ease and joking around until her hair got clipped. Since we know Ruby has no problem taking down lesser Grimm, it’s safe to say Yang is likely in the same boat. These two totally treat Grimm fighting as sisterly bonding, no one can convince me otherwise! 4.) Blake doesn’t give af. We saw her fighting robots in the intro, and being very nonchalant at first (“don’t be so dramatic”) and here it’s clear her skills extend to Grimm as well. Casually one-shots an Ursa like it’s nothing, what a menace (in the best of ways) 5.) Pyrrha has been hyped up as an amazing fighter but keep in mind she’s a TOURNAMENT fighter. She’s used to fighting people in a sport-setting, not Grimm in a life-or-death one. Notice how she ran from the Deathstalker? I imagine she’s a lot like Weiss; she’s received fantastic, top-dollar training but she just doesn’t have the experience to put it to good use yet. I just think this side of things is super under appreciated, as I’ve stated before RWBY does a LOT of subtle character work so it’s really fun to sit down and pick apart the things that fly under most people’s radar.

AJ

The next episode is very epic. Cant wait for that!!

Verdant Crown

I adore Ruby, but I honestly don't blame Weiss for being upset with her after their grimm encounter. She randomly disappeared and appeared right when and where Weiss attacked, which ended up throwing both of them off their game. I still enjoy their bickering though! I will always love the fact that Blake didn't want to leave who would be her partner up to chance. She made that choice for herself and the person that she picked was Yang, which is probably one of the best decisions she has ever made. I love the little things in their early interactions, like the amused smiles and eye-rolls. Pyrrha instantly became one of my favorite characters in the show when she was introduced. She's just a really nice, cool and capable person and I love her design. Nora and Ren are great as well, the boop scene never fails to make me smile! I will admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of Jaune at first because of how he acted, but he's really grown on me over time and I genuinely like him now. Seeing him hit on Weiss like that still makes me cringe though.

SK- Eferthigra

I'm so glad your enjoying the show so far and I hope it continues next episode in my opinion at least is the peak of season 1 next episode is so good.

Deynix

Love how much fun you’re having with this!

demonic-myst

“Very amazonian” well peira is a gender swaped achilles the greek hero Team Jnpr is all gender bent legends Ren is a male mulon Nora is female thor Jaun arc is male jaun de arc

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

More to the point, each of those source characters cross-dressed at some point, hence the gender swap: Jeanne D'Arc dressed as a man to lead French soldiers in combat. Achilles dressed as a woman (named Pyrrha, no less!) to get out of fighting in the Trojan war (it didn't work). Thor lost his hammer and dressed as a bride to get it back. Hua Mulan dressed as a man to join the Chinese army.

Thunter

You know a show is good when you really wanna binge it but you can’t 😂

SauceyRed

Yeah forgot about the thumbnails thing. Would be nice if she got the video files without thumbnails.

LikeCat

At least Elijah reacts to it so we can semi-binge this show with her. (Yet again)

Arashi

Favorite episode of Vol 1 up next. While most of the world lore get's piecemealed out in the series, the World of Remnant mini-episodes also help expand on things that have to get glossed over in series as they are 'well known' by the inhabitants of that world. After completing a Volume, you might like looking into reacting/listening to the OST for that volume as well. All of the songs get expanded on (Opening, Insert and Ending songs) and a lot of the 'cut' verses cover a lot more of the story in the song.

cholvoq

SO SO excited to see your reaction to the next episode, Ep. 8 is usually the one that locks people in, and by the looks of it you're already hooked! Also trust me when I say your love for Blake is only going to grow 😭😭 I wouldn't be shocked if she became one of your favorite characters, period.

demonic-myst

Small detail issue their , jaun didnt lead men thats a modern reinterpretation the historians of the tike inoy stated she held a flag and encouraged them later propaganda tried to make her more horoic

BrightHeart

I'd be totally fine with this being the patreon exclusive if it allows you to binge watch and release a long ass reaction without fear of the alogrithm. While also potentially allowing for bonus reactions like soundtrack reactions.

Joe

Welcome to the RWBY fandom if you look to the right and to the left you will see there are no exits. I don't know if someone has already suggested this but when you finish volume 1 you should steam the first Album. The songs are canon adjacent and give great insight into the characters. Plus the songs are amazing. Each song is from an individual perspective.

Bryan Forquer

You have no idea how happy I am to see how much you are enjoying rwby!! You are very perceptive and I am definitely impressed with how many things you picked up on. Just so you know, there is huge portion of the rwby fandom that love Blake and Yang as their favorite characters as well. I really think you're gonna love this series more and more with each volume. Can't wait for the next rwby reaction!! ❤🤍🖤💛

RiekerVerse

regarding the intros!! the intro doesnt change within the volume until all the way in volume 9, where a character reveal is reflected in the intro- while it's nice to watch the intro reaction each time, i think i speak for many when i say we wont be bent out of shape if you dont watch it for every single episode- hell for my rewatches i usually only watch the intro twice- once for the first episode of the volume and once for the finale of that volume, as a way to reflect on how far they've come since the first time that particular intro played

RiekerVerse

if i had to guess it's probably ripped off crunchyroll, which played the full intro every time

Marisa Maribel

I know this is not what you mean, but it could sound like you’re saying in your first sentence that the intro doesn’t change until Volume 9. I just don’t want there to be any confusion if Elijah reads this. Since there’s a new opening for each volume. I know what you mean though, in that there isn’t any difference in the animation of each Volume’s openings until Volume 9 puts in changes to reflect events. So I’m not correcting you, because you’re not wrong. I’m just clarifying what you mean, just in case there’s any confusion for someone not familiar with RWBY. I love every single opening personally, and never skip any of them, even when binge rewatching. But to each their own. There’s nothing wrong with people doing things differently.

Marisa Maribel

Also, I think maybe Elijah hasn’t watched as much anime as some of us, because the length of the openings in RWBY is about the length of an anime opening. Which is about a minute to a minute and a half. Which is not long at all if you’re used to it. But the length of openings for Western animation and live action shows is much shorter, and that’s what she’s probably more used to. The Volume 1 opening is shorter after episode one, except on the Crunchyroll version, which is presumably what she’s watching. So it’s a shame she isn’t watching the version that has it be shorter. And some versions of the episodes, like the DVD/Blu-rays, put the two parters together, which I also prefer to the original airing method. But at least she’s upped the amount of episodes she’s watching at a time for this volume to help mitigate that.

James Parry

Lol "the bow looks like cat ears". Just wait :P

Smol_Human

I'm so happy your watching this its one of my favorite comfort shows of all time. So here's a fun fact Its not really outwardly said in the show but every character is based off a fairytale or story of some kind, mythology to. Its really fun to try and place each one with all the different characters so you where completely right about Glinda's name being on purpose. <3

RiekerVerse

oh! yes! i noticed that and tried to edit around it, it does change volume to volume! i mean i watch it for the first and last episodes of each volume, it works for me XD

AJ

I bet Elijah does not look at these comments. But at the same time, don't be a jerk. Let it play out naturally.

SPIKELB!

You should try watching the lore videos before watching the rest of the show. You can get a lot of background information from them so as to be more in the know as to what the characters are talking about.

Globe Blotter

Yay, I’m so happy you’re doing RWBY!!!

Globe Blotter

Some girl”s in trouble 😂😂😂

lewis brown

I commented on the YouTube video about the names. Ruby is red, Weiss is German for white, Blake is old English for Black and Yang is Mandarin for Yellow. Hope that clears up the names. Looking forward to more RWBY!
