Hey all!

I'm trying something a bit different with this bonus content. I asked a model to model Elaine, and she said yes!

Now, when I was testing the waters a bit, some people didn't like the idea. Some people did. So I'm doing this a little differently - if you want a rough IRL model of Elaine, click on the link! If you think it'd "ruin" it for you, then don't. Four pictures are counting for two bonus content for the month.

Given how modeling works, there's a high up-front cost, then it's SUPER cheap to get lots of pictures. I've got a bunch more, but if people don't like it (Fewer than 40% weighted approve), then I'm not going to show more.

If people love it, then I can ask the model for another set. All depends on what you want!

So vote!

More notes:

1) The art's a little weaker this month, because I dropped almost $4k on Tsuu commissions. They're coming eventually, but it takes time to get art at Tsuu's quality. Included is the Stabby thank-you!
2) I also dropped a bunch on a fancy, FANCY map. Again, takes time, but between the two items my art budget for the month got torpedoed HARD.

3) March 23rd and 25th are my days off next month.

4) I'm currently on my regular break this week. Chapters resume Friday.

I wouldn't say a live model is bad, but the cost of a decent green screened background design and good costuming probably means it's just as good to have it fully done by an artist

Anonymous

I totally don't mind live modeling at all, in fact, I think the model you found could relatively fit the Elaine archetype. The problem is none of the outfits really fit with anything we've read so far. Unfortunately costuming to the level that would be really cool. Would probably cost a lot more than just art so I don't know. Solid point above on green screen. It could be really cool to see live action model in dragon lair or with auri. Would love to see the dwarven armor but like I said earlier, I imagine that would end up being expensive

Anonymous

I don't quite like it, but I also don't quite... Care? Sorta half and half there. So helpful.

Sean

I'm not really into it but I'm sure others enjoy it so I don't want to be too against it. I also don't overly care about the random art submissions though so maybe I'm just not the target audience for that sort of thing.

Anonymous

Like I prefer drawn and painted artwork (digital or not) but I like all "Beneath the Dragoneye Moons" content just because it's more good stuff

Rhaid

Not too into it. Might be better if she actually has armor and all that but at the moment all I really see is a cute girl, not Elaine.

Anthony P.

Yeah the costuming would definitely be a sticking point. Also with the semi medieval setting and the primary makeup being lead based, did you go over ancient alternatives with her to match the setting, might not be super important tbh. Maybe if you decide to go with a period accurate (ish, there is magic in this world) costume then brainstorm time appropriate cosmetics at that time? Also small side note that did kind of bug me a tiny bit… her right eyebrow is trimmed a little higher than her left I think? Feels mean to point out, and if I’m wrong and it’s the angle of the pics or something I’m dumb, but also it’s her living and I don’t want to not point it out also? Final point, she’s def a great Elaine. It’s uncanny in a good way.

Cameron C

I don’t much care for this because I think it would become prohibitively expensive to get a model with the clothing sets to match your existing artwork, and honestly gives me a bit of uncanny valley… which is weird cause she’s real and the character fictional

Matthew Dennis

ehhhh... the art is better. It hard to model a fantasy character in real life which is my grip. The woman is cute, but i cant picture her doing any 13th century/fantasy world shit. There is a good chance im being hypercritical, but her lack of muscle, tan, and make up break the immersion.

I think it’s okay, and I’m not against you doing more in this style but I think it would be more about how you want to see Elaine represented for your story.

That One Guy

I'm torn. I love the idea but hate that the model is not in an outfit/costume that really make me think "that is Elaine wearing her ____ " (fill in clothing here) I wouldn't say never do a live model again, but for a live model to be well received she would have to go full cosplay I think.

Anonymous

But seriously I would very much enjoy the conversation where you explain wanting photos in logica and a pile of mangos

Anonymous

My thought was look for a cosplay artist who has done a roman-esq build recently and inquire about doing a variant set.

Michael

I can only add to what has been said. I like the idea itself but there isn't really anything in those pictures that makes them Elaine instead of just pictures of a young woman. The costume and background are arguably more important to this than the person being a model. So if you want to do more real-life pictures, which I would love, I'd set different priorities for them.

Anonymous

there's something really odd about her makeup/face, it kinda creeped me out. Sry Miss.

Anonymous

everyone's diff. I don't really get that much out of the art (I don't hate them, but they get, like, 2s of "huh" on avg then I move on), let alone models (a real fad lately, idk why. imgur is just freaking filled with cosplay, although a lot of it is actually advertising I think. does nothing for me, tho.); just the story. U should do what makes u happy, tho!

jackalsclaw

Just please make sure the model is out of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley

To clarify, my vote for art wasn't because I was opposed to the cosplay, just that given the choice, I'd prefer art. No actual objections to whatever content you choose to give us.

pipMcDohl

i don't see a battle hardened veteran in this girl. She looks like a potato that only care for looks. Aside from hair color, how is this Helain? nothing really match. Yuck.

Anonymous

I don’t know if it’s just me but those pictures felt creepy/seedy af

Seiryus

Yep, as people said, this is a cute girl, not Elaine. I was expecting more of a cosplay thing.

TroubleFait

I love the idea, but to me the outfits don't really match Elaine? However the model is spot-on, and that's the most important!

HeartHawk

Like many above, I'm not against modeling but I do think I'd want more in the cosplay department if it was going to be a "regular" thing.

Allora Lee

Same as a lot of above, I think the model is very Elaine but without costumes it doesn’t feel like Remus

Hans

I like to read a story and imagine the figures for my self and, though biased, do not think that the mayority can derive any additional value from the pictures. Personally I would be more interested in one additional chapter, than in a dozen series of pictures.

Anonymous

I'm in the do whatever you think is cool category but, if you're taking the model route I'd like her hair to be a little shorter.

SelkieMyth

Yeah, but artwork and pictures don't take a lot of effort from me, while writing takes a FUCKTON. I need these regular breaks to not burn out horribly, and instead of giving you all nothing, I get cool artwork for you all. It's the least I can do for all my generous patrons.

Falxie

I don’t really care either way. Do what you think is fun to share. You could post a still painting of a bowl of mangos and it would be fine. :3

fennek

I think you can scale back your artwork addiction, Ehm, Bonus content. It's ok if you take some time of some days. I'm here for your story. I'd much prefer you having more money for food, living, Hobbys and such, as some artwork i'm vaguely appreciate. To say it blindly: i get my artwork fix somewhere else, mangas and such. Please concentrate your recourses on writing and having a good live!

SelkieMyth

I appreciate the concern! My wife and I both work, and between the two of us, we're fairly comfortable. Happy enough that I'm able to throw this type of money at artwork for the entire community without any issues. I like art

luda305

It's your creative expression, but I'm not sure why we need a professional model when I'm sure we have some female fans (or maybe a male one (only need a little padding)) who could cosplay.

Anonymous

If she were in a cosplay costume, or better yet, actual armor, she would be a pretty good match. Though, I did always picture Elaine as a tad more athletic, at least, after the Ranger Academy arc. Not like body builder buff, but closer to the Women you'll see in MMA or HEMA.

Stuart Thwaites

Hell I'll doi it! Anyone wanna see a guy with blue eye, blond hair (long and shave on the sides) and goatee who bodybuilds to try and make up for his UGLY face, dressed as Elaine?... that that. It's in writing I think it's not so good an idea.

Anonymous

If it was more of a cosplay thing it would be interesting but as it is it's just random pics of a model. I'm really not interested.

EducatedFool

I really like the idea of a model starring as the character, but it depends on a variety of factors. Imo it is important to achieve a certain degree of authenticity, which includes: costume and setting. A picture on a couch with a black widow wallpaper in the background does nothing for my immersion. A model in a fitting costume with a powerful location in the background is so much better. Live locations work out very fine - if you want to take a ranger photo: go into a forrest, search pretty places/landsides that fit the style of your world and so on and so on. If IT helps you, you can browse through the european larp/cosplay scene for references. Id recommend EOS Andy, who is a well known photographer in the subculture. Maybe look at his Instagram or search for his witcher pics (together with darth maul starring as geralt) and youll get the meaning. There are tons of excellent hobby photographers and models in the european scene, who do this stuff for free ... maybe youll find some help or references there;)

Rainer

I think we have the answer by an overwhelming landslide

NethanielShade

Not gonna lie, definitely not a fan of the irl model, but I love all the other artwork. Ultimately you’re the author and do what you enjoy, just throwing my opinion out to the empty void!
