Short version - Elaine's been getting stats from [Light of Hope] still, as I fucked up a formula. AKA she got stats from [Light of Hope] getting level 129, 130, 131... etc.

This is a moderate amount of extra stats. Over a LOT of chapters being wrong.

This is 100% my fault. No excuse.

One day I might go back and re-write them to properly have everything in and fixed.

However, I'm tempted to just rip the band-aid off, and starting from the chapter I noticed the problem, having the right stats. It'll cause a little hiccup for people looking closely at the stats, and a minor plot point gets a hair strange, but I think it's one of the better solutions.

Alternatives I've heard:

1) Retcon [Constellation of the Healer] to have more stats.
2) Other retcons.

I dislike retcons for a number of reasons. I'm tempted to just rip the bandaid off now, and get it fixed.

At the same time, if I didn't make the announcement, I doubt many people would've noticed - this error has been going on since chapter 51.

Anyways, unless someone has a brilliant idea, I'm just going to rip the bandaid off as of chapter 124.

I'm not unapposed to retcon 1, but ultimately it's up to you. Thanks for the update!

Enkelados

Tbh I never read the stats really. I wouldn't notice if anything changed.

Just rip it off.

SelkieMyth

The fact that it took 70 chapters for anyone to notice says a lot about it yeah. I figured I'd be up-front about it.

Just make a authors comment about it and rip the bandaid off... most people don’t pay attention to the stats I know I don’t. I pay attention more to the levels to see how Elaine is improving...

Alteron

Retcon 1 will be easier, just one change instead of changing all the chapters. But you are the author and it's your creation, so you get to decide :-)

Timothy Alexander

I'd agree with some of the others here - option one is a lot easier on your sanity and leaves us in the same place in the here and now. The stats can't be that much out of whack if you've only just noticed it, so it seems like by far the easiest solution. :) Up to you of course though!

Band aid ripping. I personally don't look at stats anyway, i'd say just add a note to the chapter about the error and be done with it.

I also agree retcon 1 would be easiest. That class won’t be around much longer, most people don’t read the stats so they won’t care if it’s retconned, and if lowering her stats makes some plot points in any way seem far fetched or out of her ability, it could detract much more from the story than simply constellation giving more stats. The only issue with it is it makes the next class she gets need to give even more stats to seem like a good upgrade, which depending on what you had planned, could either require no change or some change. I’d rather Elaine be slightly stronger than she should be and have her feats make sense, than have her be what she should be and have her feats not make sense since they were planned for her fake stats. If her healer is a bit OP, it doesn’t change much since it’s already a bit OP, however, a lot of little plot points not making sense over the course of a story adds up. Just my two cents, but it’s ultimately your choice. This is the danger of Lit rpg, and part of the reason I’ve never attempted one.

I'd say ret 1 or reduce a bit the not invested points. As Someone already pointed out she will class up soon but either way we follow the story not just for the numbers. I encourage you to follow the solution which makes you feel better since in the end you are the author

I wound never notice, unless you changed her skills fundamentally

IJustWannaRead

Also, just a thought, her oath also makes this a bad mistake. Take away 100 points from mana control or whatever and you massively impact her real stats when healing. The difference between boosting 1000 by 1000 percent and 1100 by 1000 percent is 1000 stat points in the end. Of course that’s when her oath is it’s current level, but you get the idea. I can see how that could cause issues because of all the times she has been exhausted or ran out of mana with her current stats wouldn’t make sense with much lower stats for anyone that’s been paying attention. That’s also why reducing stat points she has available won’t work unless you only reduce the stats she would add to the stuff affected by oath, and then people will wonder why she didn’t put any into those stats when the time comes. In the end just do what’s best for you. I might have opinions on what makes sense but it’s your story, and honestly, it won’t change the writing quality or overall plot in any major way.

Seems like voting wise Retcon 1 is the winner. THAT SAID. Do what you gotta do to make things work for you Author.

Just give her a new combine class and go from there.

George

the stats per level are mentioned ever time elaine levels up though

ben thomas

I would say that Retcon 1 or riping the bandaid off would be fine. I would say it comes down to which option impacts the story less for you.

Jeff Fischer

I'd be ok if you just stopped posting the regular stat updates. I don't read them, and they don't have a strong impact on the story.

K Hilliard

I'd say Alternative 1, to match the numbers you've been looking at and using. But it's whatever works for you honestly.

hmm i'm also not read the status, everytime. for me stats are a very good method to convey character progression and to make the magic more plausible, e.g. a character not being able to spam 2k fireballs to defeat an 1m strong army while only having 10 mana. So if you change the stats did elane do something she couldnt have without them, checking this for 60 chapters is not worth it in my eyes, so i agree with option 1 give the stats to something else.

The actual number of stats haven't really been critical or central to the story - Only that they are there and their relative amount compared to other characters.

Håvard

Her exsact numbers have bot mattered where the bug have been so use the corect numbers from now on. And when you have time go back and fix it. When you send the book to print you need to so edits anyway so.

tibbish

I'd go for the band-aid rip option, mistakes will happen, so long as you mention you're fixing a oopsie and do it quickly I don't most will care

I have never actually read and processed the numbers anyway. There is nothing to compare them to so their value is essentially meaningless. Bigger numbers = Elaine grows. That's enough for me.
