It's just a simple video about a videogame, like any other videogame video. Totally not about Zenimax and Bethesda being horrible to an employee. Not at all.

Thank you for this video. It is horrifying what happened to Leona. I have been a senior manager in a technology company (not gaming related). I cannot imagine someone on my team coming to me explaining how hurt they were by something that occurred and responding the way her manager did. It shows a complete lack of empathy and human decency. As a boring cis man I cannot fully imagine what it is like to be Leona, but it is a managers job to TRY and then SUPPORT. It is not difficult for me to imagine how painful that sequence of events was for Leona, and my heart goes out to her.

I watched this video this morning about the writers' and actors' strike and thought, "It's what Steph has been saying about video games for years." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHl5gd-krFk

I know you didn't enjoy making this video but thank you for present the appropriate gravity and tone it deserved, with a wit only you can bring. I really do want to know what you think about Exoprimal though.

This was a really important episode. Thanks for the episode Steph. Gives me a lot to think about as we reach the fever pitch of the "gamer" hype cycle for that game.

Also in IT. I've worked at two places where people bragged about being sent to HR. When applying for work, I make it very clear that I won't last a month at a place like that again. It's so suffocating. The people being abused obviously have it the worst, but it's awful seeing that kind of behavior and feeling like if you speak up, you'll be fired with prejudice.

It'd be nice to have a AAA game made where no one was harassed, abused, or bullied.

Incredible video. Thank you very much.

I don't post on (or look at, for that matter!) Patreon very often, but YouTube comments are a cesspool so it's better to post here. I also just discovered the "shift+enter to add a new line rule, when it's directly below the comment box, so that's embarassing. I'm a long-time subscriber, and a... I don't know, few months Patreon? Very much enjoy your content, both now and years ago, and I appreciate all you do. It's been nice to see you having more fun of late, but these kinds of videos are just as important. As far as I can tell, you're the only 'visible' personality even covering it - as you hinted in your video, I've not even heard of this until your Jimquisition popped up on YouTube just now. And I know this one must've been particularly difficult to do. But, keep up the good work. Whatever anybody says, it's important, and you do it well. For my part, I'll keep bunging you a quid every month as a small token of appreciation!

Thanks Steph!! I loved the throwback to the classic shitting on Bethesda clip, and agree it was very poetic! I can't speak for all cishet white males but, as one who enjoys gaming, I'm very glad to see you calling out the shit these big companies try to pull. As you've argued before, the best gaming experience doesn't justify the poor treatment of ANY employee, let alone someone who is part of a marginalized demographic. I'm very glad to see that you seem to be in a better place and more able to counteract the tide of negativity that can easily pull anyone down.

This situation is ridiculous even from a cynical perspective. Zenimax is scared of getting caught committing a crime, and their solution is commit said alleged crime? The facts taken as they are right now, it all seems pretty cut and dry to me. And they want to die on that hill for what? Because some executive and/or their managers are bigots? These corporate bodies are completely capable of setting all possible human consideration aside for the sake of even the smallest profit, but are totally okay risking costly discrimination lawsuits because a few old morons in the company are made uncomfortable by the LGTBQ+ community? Their weird, childish feelings and phobias are worth financial loss, but an employee's basic wellness is worth nothing? Obviously it makes no moral sense because it is a blatant disregard for basic human rights, but it doesn't make any business sense either. It really shows how deeply rooted the problem is, and how serious it is.

That comparison to veganism/allergies really stood out to me since that's something I'd never considered, and I never really realized people would find those to be inconveniences. Bigotry has never quite made sense to me since I don't understand being upset about something like someone's gender/diet since it won't negatively affect me in any way, but if someone considers being considerate about even the smallest things to be an inconvenience, I can see how they might take the same logic I use and twist it around to justify bigotry.

The veganism/allergy thing is something that's been on my mind for a long time and I've been waiting for a good reason to bring it up. It really bothers me how anyone with slightly different needs is treated as a problem in our culture. I've met one or two pushy vegans in my time, but the universal portrayal of them as whiny annoyances is pure propaganda. Almost everyone close to me is vegan or vegetarian and none of them have ever pressured me. Our culture decided to portray them as whiny because their existence is an inconvenience, and inconveniences have to be portrayed as whiny so everyone else can feel good about shitting on them rather than accomodating them. It's really quite fucking creepy when you look at it that way, especially once you realize that, indeed, people with lethal allergies and disabilities are portrayed the same way.
