Kotaku is under fire from half the Internet for publishing a story on the leaked details for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo blacklisted them ages ago, they owe the company nothing, and what they did wasn't actually bad.   Obviously, going to bat for them is going to get me in trouble with the Performative Outrage Gang. I'm just gonna go hide and play with my Manta Force.

Isn't, er, publishing things despite the risks the thing that shows actual journalistic integrity? I will never understand Gamers™.

Andrew

A news outlet reports on news, and people get mad about it. What a world we live in, lol.

I have no issue with them say, reporting the leak details or their 'pirate Metroid dread' article that got them in hot water with nintendo. What I don't like is their whiny attitude where they apparantly want to both be able to spit in Nintendo's eye and keep a working relationship with them to get review copies/invites to preview events etc. If you want to put a thumb in Nintendo's eye and stand up against the crappy things they've done go for it, but don't whine about the consequences of it after the fact with cringy tweets.

Dylan Belcher

Steph, you've ruined Zelda TotK by reporting on the report on the leak. I will never play a Zelda game again.

Well, think about it. GamersTM want their nice tidy echo chamber that feeds their egos and game publishers are used to controlling the narrative to grant their devoted minions exactly that. Break the illusion and you earn the ire of both parties. That goes for journalists, critics, and anyone else capable of making an observation on objective reality.

Josephine Baird

If I may say, that exchange at the end, adorable <3.

I love you like I love few things in this world, never stop doing what you do.

I don't follow any games media except JSS, so this video was great news for me: There's a followup to botw and it's already out on pc.

I'm sure you said it, but when I saw the topic trending... and the same voices... it was never about ethics in journalism, was it?

It's objectively hilarious that Kotaku owes Nintendo nothing, legally, because it's Nintendo's own wish that it be so. Call me Petty LaBelle but I'm kicking back with popcorn.
