A week after buying it, Outriders is one of the very worst "live service" experiences I've ever played.

The servers are so busted, the software so prone to crashing, and the gameplay so unworthy of the investment that I'm absolutely disgusted.

While I understand not everybody has had my experience, I can only share mine, and I am legitimately angry that something has wasted my time and money so thoroughly.

Outriders is the epitome of my problem with these half-baked, rushed, Early "AAA"ccess products.

I've had someone in one of my regular multiplayer group raving about how good it is constantly. I played the demo though and didn't fall for it. It's harsh when you buy a game like that and then can't find anyone to play with.

You're right, Jim. I have enjoyed the gameplay and story, but have been acutely aware of the jarring graphical and audio glitches, the incessant bugginess of the game, the loading times and the fuckery of trying to play multiplayer, only for it to crash us all out or otherwise break.

I've been enjoying it quite well. I've got a good setup, and I haven't had any connectivity issues. Looking at the steam reviews, mileage may vary, but as for the gameplay I've found it really satisfying. I went against my usual inclination and rolled a tank and I've found the combat really visceral and the fights intense enough to keep me engaged. Also found all the story and side missions really compelling.

I am also not playing on console which is apparently straight trash.

It feels like it makes much more sense from a business and development perspective to just make offline single player games. Simpler to develop, fewer servers to keep online all the time, and a lot easier to trouble shoot.

I've been loving the game, it is super sensitive to ISP quality though and even a hint of packet loss sends it crying home to mommy and daddy. Also, my friends that have it on console played it on my PC and thought the PC version was a lot smoother.

I was so excited for this game, and I figured the fact that they released a demo (which was good and actually, you know, WORKED) made it a reasonably safe bet. I didn't preorder, but I did pick it up at launch without looking up people's experiences because I, in my infinite optimistic naivety, figured that a fully functional demo with actual working crossplay meant that they had that shit on lock. God I feel stupid. I had a couple hours of fun playing the demo with my buddy and wife, he on PC and us on Xbox. Crossplay was a huge selling feature and that seems to be their lowest fix priority. They're making fucking game balance updates and we can't even play yet. I saw the quality of the demo and I feel like there's a good game there behind all of this horse shit, but I may just be refunding the fucker until they get their shit together.

I don't know, looking at Bethesda and CDPR lately, and historically, single player AAA is no less prone to issues, just different ones. And the same ones as well.

It always annoys me when I complain about a buggy as hell game and someone replies "Works fine for me," as if that debunks my complaint. This isn't a zero sum thing - you can't cancel out my disappointment with your enjoyment. I wish gamers would stop doing this. I've been hearing this crap forever; I complained about crashes in Fallout 3 (which I loved and that made it even more annoying it was so damn buggy. At least this is a game Steph isn't all that jazzed about.), Oblivion, hell, just about anything Bethesda makes, Dead Island (I had a save eating bug that stole 40 hours of game), Torchlight 3, I mean, I could sit here all day. Even with all the press about it, gamers still did this stuff with Cyberpunk - "You're all exaggerating how bad this is. Runs perfect for me." We get it, you like the game and you don't like people bashing on it. But come on. If you love a game, that's all the more reason to hold the creators to task. Don't let them put out a crap game. Think of how many more accolades a company you love would get if they didn't put out a crap game. Think about how many more people would join your tribe of "people who love game X" if the game didn't have these problems. Don't let game companies use you as a shill to cover for their faults. People who complain are people who bought the game and wanted to like it, or they are people who would like to play the game, but are annoyed it's so crap. They aren't attacking you or your tribe. They want to be a part of your tribe. It's just there's no more room in there with all the bugs. I wish I didn't have to complain about this "Works for me" kind of comment as it's relatively harmless on it's own - but clearly the problem is getting worse, not better. It blows my mind that big companies would release something so janky. But I think they do it because they know their legions of fans will flood the comments with, "works for me!" instead of some version of - "that really sucks! They should work on getting the console version up to the level of the PC version. Company X should not treat their customers and fans this way." If for no other reason than you'll have more people to talk to about how awesome a game is if companies fix this shit.

"Works fine for me" is among the most useless contributions to videogame discussion.

I can easily see being spoiled by having recently picked up Monster hunter world as a replacement for every looter shooter. You could easily see companies wanting to monetize the hell out of it, and yet they haven't.

Play Valheim instead 😛

Munchman

The best part is even if you get the game to work... They nerfed the game and made it a Coop game only for end game, despite LYING and saying ALL THE GAME CAN BE PLAYED SOLO, and just for the record, just for the fuckng record, you CAN Solo the end game... if you cheese/exploit... and it's coz of the cheese and expoilts, they nerfed the game, so if you play it "properly" and as it's a coverbased shooter, where you can ONLY PLAY AS A Run and Gun (like Doom) where the end game is TImE BASED so you can't take cover or you lose ability to earn Gold. This game had potential, but they LITERALLY fucked it. Stephanie, you technically lucked out, you got a total mess and saw it for it's raw fucked up heart and got out before it tricked you like it tricked me. I wasted too much time on this fucking pathetic game.

"I had a bad experience with this game that came out a few days ago" "No, you didn't" "...yes I-" "NO YOU DIDN'T"
