This week, we take ourselves a look at NFTs, and how one game developer is using an already shady concept to insult videogame artists.

Then there's the case of the unfortunately named #EAGate, and FIFA's latest scumbaggery.

You want some more? Okay, well we've also got a response to the claim Pokémon Go has "fun presents" instead of loot boxes. Ha ha ha.

Dear sweet Mother of fuck NFTs sounds incomprihensably dumb

Copy-pasting my comment from YouTube because maybe there's a higher chance you'll see it on here. For what it's worth, I'm unsubscribing and cancelling my Patreon support because you're just wasting SO MUCH TIME doing literally nothing in these videos. And you're basically an exaggerated reactions channel now. This has been happening gradually for a long time now, I genuinely can't imagine you're proud of what you've become. I really liked and respected your older content. Not anymore. And before you jump to conclusions, this has NOTHING to do with your recent (ish) coming out. It has nothing to do with you as a person or the way you look on the screen. It's about your work. At this point you're just as bad as covid deniers, antivaxxers and the lot. Literally anything that comes out of the games industry, no matter how small or neutral it is, you have to react to it at great insufferable length and you have to take every tiny thing to the extreme. Or do you? You didn't use to do that. You used to be a reasonable person, you used to take things in the right proportions. That's not you anymore. I'm not writing this out of hate, I hope you can tell. I hope to see you get back to doing what you're good at, and to resubscribe to you in the future when that happens. All the best.

Before this episode I had not heard of NFTs - that news had completely passed me by. What complete and utter BS it actually is. Ignorance truly is bliss.

Blockchain is actually not the problem here. Think of blockchain as a database where everyone can read and 1 can write. This is very useful in cases where you assume corruption because everyone sees the writes to the log and can dispute them. Countries where corruption is a great concern have had huge successes with it regarding land rights, land ownership, town/state/county border delineation, tax collection, and more. The trick is that you have to get everyone to agree that this is the truth. This isn't a problem in North America and Europe where corruption is minimal, is quickly discovered, and is often either institutional or cause for arrest. But in places with rampant corruption, it is very helpful to have a full set of public transactions that individuals can't change without anyone knowing. Where things can go horribly wrong is when you start doing stupid shit like money or whatever this bullshit is. Smart and unscrupulous assholes make a quick buck off of stupid people. If you pay 2 million dollars and don't own anything, that is very likely a scam.

Another good video James Stephanie. 🙂 I appreciated the meltdown as the realization came that the entire global economy only functions as it does because we believe it has to be like this. (I know you've brought it up before but it was still another great part of the video). 😃

I wish we saw Surprise Mechanic in this clip, even if it was just archive footage of last time.

Literally anything that comes out of the games industry, no matter how small or neutral it is, you have to react to it at great insufferable length and you have to take every tiny thing to the extreme." You literally compared Jim to anti-vaxxers and COVID deniers, yet present yourself as some kind of paragon of "fair and balanced" thinking? After abuse stories from Ubisoft and Riot Games? After Activision dodging taxes to the point that the general public pays for their tax breaks, and underpaying their veteran devs to the point that they lost salary over the years? After so many AAA publishers using loot boxes and other micro transactions to encourage unmitigated gambling, leading to stuff like the FIFA Ultimate team black market? The same subject that had Jim doing extensive research and recording testimonials on how this affects gamers with debilitating addictions? But now James Stephanie has become as brainless as COVID deniers, who weaponize their ignorance into harming other people by becoming super spreaders. Wow. Just...wow. Good luck with anyone taking your asinine opinion seriously, especially Jim.

I do wonder whether NFTs have some use as a bit of a proof of concept for the masses. Fundamentally people really don't understand what blockchain or defi are (and I'm not pretending to really understand it myself). As a way of demonstrating what we can actually do with blockchain there seems to be value in them - it's just a shame that they're so incredibly dumb. It would be much more helpful if we were talking about something a bit more tangible where rights could be asserted, so when I next spend an hour trying to explain it to my mum I can say - this person indisputably owns this and no one else can ever steal it.

I'm scratching my head about Kotaku writing an article about that now when the eggs and paying real money to get a bunch more in-game currency to buy more incubators (and other tools) has existed in Pokemon GO for at least a couple years now.

Magic is real. Dollar bills are enchanted by the government to be worth something. Without that magic of mutual agreement, paper money is nothing.

I loved the part of eggs where they encourage me to actually get out and go for a walk. However, the capitalist exploitation utterly ruins it for me. Great vids! Bigots gonna bigot; I love more genders in video games journalism.

I turn on Adventure Sync so it records distance walked while the app is closed. It pairs great with my current pedometer regimen.
