Conrad: "You will not make a profit on this at this point." Gamestop at $150: Hold my margin.

Short selling hastens the deaths of companies. It destroyed Enron. There is also nothing inherently wrong with the belief that a stock will go down rather than up. I always respected short sellers. They cam drive change like no one else. Imagine oil had short sellers. I also reject that Tesla is successful. I don't think they will be around in 10 years. I think GM will aquire them. How many of us are seriously willing to wait 2 years for a 40k car? Also, the insect glave is there for bringing the monster down. But I am so glad Jim likes it!

It also helps that ENRON fabricated profits it didn't actually make and they thought they would pay no price for that. Now that's BS sorcery logic like what Jim mocked at 6:00 in the podcast. Also, there was the shrewd short sellers in "The Big Short" who saw the '06-'07 bubble was more fragile than many thought and made a killing when the illusion dissipated.

Brian Beswick

Love the financial perspective, but I was kind of hoping Jim would speculate on how this might be affecting GameStop as a company and other companies in the video game industry. For example, do think good ole Bobby Kotick is creaming his pants thinking he can just layoff the entire company, stop making games and just put out $70 screen savers for the next gen console, and let the die hard fans artificially maintain the stock price while he keeps the billions for himself?

Gamestop almost went into chapter 13. They have remade themselves into a gaming center with ccg's and table top games. Their business model almost did collapse. I am not surprised people would bet against them but right now they seem stable. Basically, gamestop has to move on from being a used game store and if not, they will not be around in 2 years. Games so huge or so small that the only way to effectively distribute them is digitally. Without the used physical medium market, gamestop would lose 90% of their income today if they didn't change 5 years ago. Now if a company can survive for 12 months during a restructure, it is sort of incredible.

Target, Walmart, best buy and a dozen other stores sell controllers and accessories. Their cash on hand could evaporate if they don't change. Right now, it makes it possible to become a store that doesn't just sell video game stuff. It could become a massive in person, table top, or Lan gaming store. Covid doesn't help.
