Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a prequel to a sequel and a sequel to a spin-off. It's also really bloody good, I reckon.

With a more complex Warriors formula than usual, a diverse range of characters that have their own play styles as well as movesets, and a whole ton of content, it's mechanically superior to the first Hyrule Warriors, even if it doesn't quite benefit from the original's novelty factor.

Also, you get to keep all your weapons.

I loved the game a lot, the usage of the sheikah slate in place of items solved my biggest complaint with the first game (swapping between items to counter enemies was just slow and clunky enough to be aggravating, being able to use each item with a dedicated button is fantastic). My only real complaint is I feel like the map screen and weapon inventory stuck a little *too* close to the Breath of the Wild interface and suffered for it. The map gets cluttered with all the icons, and the weapon fusion is confusing because weapons don't have star-ratings any more, so it can be hard to tell if a weapon has higher base damage than your current one or not. All in all loved the game, glad to see Hyrule Warriors getting more attention in general, I hope they add more characters and levels later on like they did in the first game.

To be fair I like the original Hyrule Warriors better than Breath of the Wild, so I expect to like this one better. Hated durability and while I thought BotW was a good game I thought it was only a decent *Zelda* game. And while this probably won't fix a lot of my complaints the lack of weapon durability combined my willingness to be more forgiving of a Zelda Warriors game makes me think I'll enjoy this.
