It's been a while, huh?

Things here aren't necessarily calming down as we change how the business works to be less reliant on YouTube, continue working on office/studio stuff, and deal with various personal/medical/misc. challenges, but I'm getting used to dealing with it, so I should try to get back to normal.

Which brings us to another Asking Sterling podcast, where patrons ask questions and - astoundingly - I answer them! I know it's been forever, but I'm sure you have plenty of things to pelt me with.

So have at it! Will answer the first half (if it's another long one) soon.

If you could kiss one person and have them be into it (aside from Jonathan obviously), who would it be?

Any game in particular you've found yourself going back to again and again since lockdown? As shitty as Bethesda is, I've found myself playing Skyrim on Switch as a replacement for going outside in real life. Love, Ollie x

Craig Jones

How’re you doing during this crazy covid time :/ Like your lipstick in the Jimquisitions btw x Very fabulous x

Kaos

Don't know if it's been asked already, but how has the Global Pandemic affected your business, if any? Cheers from Fiji :)

I don't have a question, so I'm gonna cheat and say: thank you for the work you do.

Genuinely curious Jim, are you familiar with The Satanic Temple? I really think you’d dig what they’ve been doing lately.

Hades is looking like one of your game of the years (as it should be) this year but out there other games everyone has not been playing but should?

Tim Albers

If you had to leave the US (for what ever reason) would you rather go back to the UK or a different country? PS: I love your stuff and am glad to be part of this little community. Keep going!

Heya Jim, any plans on doing Jimpressions for the game spiritfarer? I actually knew about the game because you mentioned it in an old vid. Your old pal Yahtzee has already done it, and it was enough to make him tear up, quite a feat. I actually helped beta test this one and I’d say you should def give it a go

Hi Jim, love you and your work as always!!! When do you consider the golden age of video games. Hope your doing good :)!

Trent Michaels

Have you ever played Space Channel 5 Part 2?

Anonymous

A bit of a technical question. Your audio always seems louder than Conrad's in SODS. Is that just Conrad being a more soft spoken person or is there a difference in how your audio is set up? It can be a bit hard to hear Conrad at times.

Anonymous

Have you ever considered a group YouTube channel with your frequent collaborators? I think people really like the personal dynamic with Podquisition cohosts etc. And just think it would be fun to see you all get up to stuff without even the banner of a video game setting. Not that I want to give you more work, thank you for all your output and your discussion of important topics like mental health. Thanks from your old homeland.

What movies or shows do you watch to lift your spirits? Hope you're doing well Jim 🙏

Hi Jim, please forgive me if this is too personal (vaguely finance related) in which case don't answer: I'm a YouTube Premium subscriber but I haven't heard much about how good it is for creators since its early days (when people were positive towards it). Are you satisfied with the YouTube Premium revenue you're getting, if any? Is it a good way to support creators?

Hey Jim, hope you've been as well as possible! Since games like Katamari Damacy, Onimusha, Okami, Oddworld: Strangers Wrath and Mario Sunshine are on the Switch, what are some other games from the Gamecube/PS2 gen that you'd like to see on the Switch (remastered or otherwise)?

Michael

Hey Jim, I know you said you were trying to find people to meet in philly. I just wanted to recommend meetup.com as I think it’s a good resource for people trying to find social groups. Also, just wanted to ask your relationship with the Angry Joe show? I notice they often use your clips in game discussion, especially their end of year reviews (DW9 for example). Are you a friend of their show or a fan? Thank you for all your work!

Hi Jim! There goes my question: what is your "guilty pleasure" game? Cheers from Brazil!

Hi Jim, I've been thinking on that Microsoft purchase of Zenimax/Bethesda and remember you saying in the Bethesda Obselete video that Fallout and Elder Scrolls do nothing for you in a post Outer Worlds World. Do you believe your stance on that could change if Microsoft headed up development and made some essential quality of life changes to those games and seeing them on a more modernised engine? P.S. I originally believed the purchase was done more to get a studio experienced in ports on Microsofts side at the start of a new console gen where ports are everywhere, thoughts on that maybe being a motive? #ThankGodForJim

Hi Jim! What are some projects that you have wanted to do, but have decided not to do for one reason or another?

Thank you for everything you do. Question: Do you think you will ever do "Steam Greenlight" type of videos again? I know Greenlight is gone but I think we need more promotion for games that stand out from the thousands of low effort games released every day on Steam. I miss TotalBisquit, I used to watch every one of his "WTF is" videos.

What do you think has gone wrong with Halo? Is 343 good enough, as they have seemingly never been involved in a good Halo game. Should Halo have ended at Reach? Will Halo ever get back to the top of tree; if so can 343 realistically be best for the job?

Muja

Will you consider doing videos on twitch's bs now that you're more familiar with the platform?

When you did your Jimquisition on Microsoft buying Bethesda, you were sweating a lot and dressed like a crab. As the proper way to cook crabs is to boil them alive, are you sure Justin wasn't trying to boil you alive and then eat you.

So... skirt with pockets. How is that going, Jim? Have you worn it yet? Felt good? Cheers for doing the Q&A and keep up the great work <3

Tinwhisker

Jim, you already employee some people either on permanent or contact periods. Do you see the Jimquisition ever growing larger than it is or have you reached some sort of "sweet spot" for the content you want to make?

Bruce The Genetic Jackhammer Rando

Any interest in creating more podcasts or collaborating with other youtubers/podcasts in the future? I’m just a big fan of your improv comedy style and would like more of it

Do you think enthusiast gamers will ever get fed up with the EA Sport/Ubisoft/Bethesda style "formula" games? We're far beyond deminishing returns in terms of bigger maps and better graphics while it seems gameplay innovation has has fallen by the wayside in the AAA space.

Anonymous

I have many questions, but as someone who has listened to Podquisition for years, I have kind of a personal one, so feel free to read it first and not answer if you don’t want to discuss: You mentioned your wife and how much her being in your life meant to you a lot before your move to Philadelphia, and since the move it seems as though she has been absent from your discussion. Have the two of you grown apart/separated, or are you just placing more of an emphasis on keeping your private life private? Again, apologies if this is too personal, I just know that separations can wreak havoc on ones mental state, and I was honestly a bit worried that you may be dealing with something like that. Thanks for all you do Jim, on a personal note for me you were the main driving force that inspired me to finally come out as Non-binary, so thank you for that, and looking forward to all you will do in the future!!

Anonymous

You have said in the past that graphics are not as important as AAA spokespeople make out in the hype stage of a project (espically to excuse cost and crunch), but many of your critiques revolve around art direction, frame rates or colours used i.e drab versus vibrant , where is the Line here ?

What where your reasons for leaving the UK? And what where the things you wish you knew about immergrating before you did it. Yours truly, a fellow guy about to leave the UK

I can't help but feel as though the hootering and hollering from last years E3 has set a precedent for 2020 and beyond that these publishers think that they are doing a good job, when in fact the crowd were just 'me me me' ing in an attempt to grab a free collectors edition of games & media press coverage. Do you feel as though the industry as a whole will only get worse as it operates on an economic model that continues to exploit and throw out garbage, and do you have any ideas as to how the industry could improve itself? I would say burn it all and give everyone a copy of Hades, but that's just me.

Anonymous

I'm unsure if you know about Phasmophobia, the new popular ghost-hunting game. Is there any chance you could rope in Barry Dodds and Ian Boldsworth to play a game or two? I so want to see that happen, it'd be the best LP of the game out there! :U EDIT: seems Ray has shot it down by and large, feels it'd be a waste of time. Still, a Jim/Barry ghost hunt would still be fun to see :)

Imagine there is a lot going on in your life, and I hope that you can find time to take it easy. As such, my burning question is this: Is there any greater moment of pure ecstatic joy in this universe of ours than finding a dress or skirt that has pockets?

A lot of wrestlers now stream themselves playing games. I've recently started but could use some advice. What do you wish you knew when you started streaming (camera angle, background, tags, which games, etc)?

You’ve discussed many games in the past with unethical, predatory micro transactions and the like. I was wondering what you believe has been the game that has included micro transactions in the best and most positive way? That should be the gold standard for any developer if they are including these transactions at all? Thank god for you Jim!

Where do you see the next big leap in game design heading? Graphics and raw power keep moving forward, but game design itself has been relatively stagnant this last generation.

Hey Jim, next to your podcast I also listen to germany's greatest (and biggest, I think) gaming podcast, called "The Pod" and they said they wrote you regarding an interview (in english, ofc) for their podcast, but you never responded. They also interviewed Jason Schreier twice and are awesome (and quite critical) at analyzing the current gaming market and, as far as I can tell, are avid followers of your stuff. Did you just miss their inquiry or are you opposed to being interviewed by different podcasters? If not, would you consider giving them another listen? It would be beyond awesome to hear your combined loveliness. :) If you are opposed to it, do you have a reason for not enjoying the conversation? :)

I read into this and found that Patreon banned sexualized anime depictions of underage characters, not anime art in general. Feels a bit weird to not include that in your post.

Hey Jim, How are you? 1. I feel like the enemy in Hades with the big cup that jerks backwards and then lunges forwards is based off of you. It kind of feels like your move set. Congratulations about being in the Video game: Hades! 2. I kind of started following wwe again, for some reason the You Tube algorithm started to put WWE content into my feed with channels like what culture popping up all the time. Here are a few things that I have gleamed by looking into them . Bray Wyatt and Auska are the only reasons to watch WWE. Is that a true statement? Auska is mostly someone I pay attention to because of her you tube channel Kana Chan TV which is is adorable on, Its just her doing random things with a sound track. Bray Wyatt is someone that it feels like Vince did not pay attention to and he just was allowed to do his own thing for a bit and somehow the fans ate that shit up, and now we have the kids host/ Demon from hell gimmick going on and its pretty good, Would love your thoughts on Bray. 3. I'm a MBA student graduating in December. I actually did a deep dive into WWE finically, and while their books are clean, there cooperate governance is all fucked up, Vince has most of the Class B share of stock which give him control of the company because he own that stock. Its basically for every Class B share he owns he has 10x more voting power than someone that just owns a share of WWE. Vince owns about 40% of WWE this way. Linda and Stephany own about 10% of the company that way. interestingly enough HHH does own some stock but its all class A. Anyway I have a radical idea. I don't know if Blizzard, EA, or any of the AAA (side note they call it that because the rating agencies have given them a bond rating of that high level which entitles them to cheaper interest rates when they take out loans.) game industry companies have their governance set up this way? If they don't have class B stock then a large group of people could start to buy shares and eventually vote someone into a spot on the board where that person could affect policy and change. This is just a for instance. Not saying that a community should rise up and seize the means of production...........But if 10000 people gave you 10$ a month to buy Blizzard or EA stock with that would be 100K a month(not saying you should do this in all seriousness), If you did that for 2 or 3 years you would own 3 million dollars with of that company and the board with have a financial duty to at least listen to you. Yeah it sounds kind of like a big ball of stress and complication to me too. Thanks for listening to me ramble.

If Jimsaw is chaotic good and the Surprise Mechanic is chaotic evil, who would fill the chaotic neutral spot? The poster below me smells like pineapples.

Hey Jim, hope you're well all things considered! As a supporter, I really appreciate your one tier approach to delivering such a consistent and high standard of content. However, I would love to hear of other ways to best support you or even a christmas wish list of boglin A to boglin Z. It's been a rough ride this last while, so it'd be nice to give you some sort of surprise boon a-typical to standard business. As a topical question though, I wonder would you ever collaborate with anyone else? I feel like you're loud opinion is quietly supported by a number of personalities, but I wonder have you ever considered a collaborations such as guest opinions etc especially now you're dipping into a pod format. I think a rotating vanilla opinion would play nicely off your arguement a lot of the time. Anyway, keep the spirit and lipstick bright!

Wow, its been such a long time! I have a lot of questions, but will keep it down to three short ones. If that's still too many, perhaps you can pick one from the three? >:D 1. Will you vod all of your Twitch stuff? I rarely interact with chat on Twitch, using it as I do on Youtube, to play in the background as I work on other things 2. How's Justin? +Can you let him know that I enjoyed "Justinpressions"? 3. Did you watch Netflix's "War for Cybertron"?

Congrats on coming out as gendertrash! As others have said, it's really moving to see a fellow nonbinary person who isn't the usual super-thin standard (I know I often have trouble passing for masc because of tit problems even with T, to the point I'm often discouraged from trying). Have you found anything frustrating about finding femme fashion that works for you; or on the flip side, felt any other really cool successes like The Pocket Skirt? Much love.

Hi Jim! I've been replaying Skyrim and found that it really doesnt hold up without mods, so I went back to a game that does hold up, Morrowind. Since the main plot of Morrowind leaves it up to the player whether or not the player is a reincarnated god king or if attempting to fullfill the prophecy just tricks you into going through the same rise to power the original god king did by completing the prophecy's steps, making you powerful enough to stop the villain, which is your interpretation if you've played the game?

Anonymous

I enjoy when you recommend indie/smaller titles like Disco Elysium, Plague Tale & Bloodstained. Can you do a monthly or quarterly “roundup” that focuses on just your favs?

Anonymous

I hope this isn't too much, I know a person's sexuality and gender is their own business, but as someone who's still trying to work out my own, would you be willing to talk a little about your own journey of coming to understand yourself, and what being gendertrash means to you?

Twit In A Hat

I can't think of a good question this time 'round, so: what's your favourite chill-out snack and/or drink? (e.g. tea and biscuits, coffee and toast, etc.) Also, favourite type of biscuit?

Faith and Valor have a good month creators. Love all that you do.

Hi Jim, I was wondering if you have watched The Social Dilemma a documentary on Netflix concerning the nature and growth of social media and how no one is really putting checks and balances on how it progresses. There are a lot of parallels to topics you discuss about the AAA Video Game Industry I'm and curious what you thought. Also would you consider making content that goes beyond the trouble with the Video Game Industry and focus on the broader problem of corporations in general?

Anonymous

Do you have any personal favorite "bits" from old Podtoid, Dismal Jesters, FIstshark, or Boston's Favorite Son?

Cyberweasel89

Are you familiar with GaiaOnline? They were marketing lootboxes to children and fostering toxic culture long before the 'AAA' game industry picked up on it, and it wasn't even a game, it was a forum.

Anonymous

Hey Jim, congrats on going 100% ad free on your youtube content. It's great to know you can do what you want, and not be beholden to the algorithm anymore. On that note, me and my friends missed not having your Jimsaw bit last year. Any intention on bringing it back for this Halloween?

Thanks for doing what you do. Strange as it might seem, hearing you and the other podcast members talking about all the bullshit going on in the world comforts me a bit, just to know someone else sees it. Now my question is, given how that Fist of the North Star Yakuza style game turned out, what other franchise would you want to see done by that team in that style? Perhaps we finally get the Heman game we've all wanted.

alternative question: if no one covered AAA games and only reviewed indie titles, would that force the big companies to stop producing and selling such garbage?

Hey Jim, with this newer switch to more streaming and less YouTube, do you have any plans to record/edit these streams or otherwise make them available for people who don't watch streamers? Where did you get that Silent Hill 4 room door badge? Would you consider bringing back "The Videogame Show What I've Done"? Is the Sterling mask influenced by Electro from Spider-Man at all? And when is Jonathan off Road Rules going to capture the Loch Ness Monster?

I heard in an episode that you won't be a promoter for anyone's (at least AAAs) game sent to you. If in the future I do finally figure out the programming aspect and sent you a game to test (so you could make sure i'm not making a pile of garbage to waste peoples time and to help me figure out a price tag that won't be over charging,) would you? I do not want to be another digital homicide, the world (I hope) deserves better.
