We're fast approaching a new generation of consoles, and we don't even know what they'll cost or when they'll come out. But we DO know that Sony might allow you to preorder one from them if you're very good.   

As we hurtle toward next-gen in a year where people literally don't have money, we're already drowning in total nonsense. Because this is the game industry - straightforward behavior and sensible commerce went out to lunch years ago.

Another great video Jim. 😃 Really hope you're wrong about Sony's pre-order model becoming the norm. But, this is the AAA games industry so you're probably right. 😞

I think Sony is in a fairly unique situation this year because of the pandemic. I also think the language you referenced was to get streamers hardware before the unwashed masses. I cant find fault with that. Streamers and the dreaded influencer are a way to push crap but here, it is a bit silly. Ps4 players largely want a ps5. It's like trying to sell pot. People already want it and if you don't, i doubt that hearing someone on youtube will get you to want it. I might be wrong. I am not in marketing. My guess is that they have a small subset reserved for the marketing people and a fairly limited supply that will outpace demand. That gets to your point. Here, the supy is affected by external factors and we need rationing. They are trying to avoid what Nintendo went through with 1 person buying 20 systems and charging hundreds of dollars on ebay.

I become more convinced than ever that i might actually just boycott this generation of Playstation and Xbox entirely. I don't like their choices or their offerings, and i don't need what they tell me to need.

Honestly, I’m no going to complain that the Jimquisition isn’t helping people’s escapism, because I think you’re pretty fucking vital as a customer resource when it comes to the game industry. Knowing all the bs that’s going on on the business side of things is definitely a help when considering a possibility risky purchase (especially since I’m in the target demo for loot boxes, predatory micro transactions and season passes; ADHD does not lend itself to responsible purchasing decisions)

I "boycotted" the current gen of consoles (never bothered to get one because I couldn't justify the cost) and I'll probably do the same to the next gen because of bad business practices.

The entry price for a pc is still too high. If this gets you a 2070 with an SSD, it's hard. Lile, I was in thr same boat but a 2500 to 3000 price point isnt worth it. Also, no one really wants a used pc so there isnt a market.

I do suspect that it's probably an attempt so the first owners and the first general users are fans, given the pandemic it's not the weirdest idea and I don't think it will become a trend. More importantly though wtf is AAAA, like it doesn't even make sense. Also anyone else finding Jim more attractive in the lipstick?

Several friends have asked if this is the gen I'll buy a console, since I stopped after the PS2. My reply shall now be 'No, because I don't beg anyone to sell me anything. When I buy something, I'm the guy with the money, and I decide where it goes and when. I don't wait to be invited to the party and told that I may now be ALLOWED to spend my money.'
